Shure SCM268 Reviews

Good for basic set ups, not video or depositions

Since many live video shoots are mission critical, with no option to monitor the output with phones, you're going to have to monitor the audio at the camera to be sure you're not clipping, or deponents are not causing overload with their couphing or shouting. Those who use this mixer without monitoring are taking a chance their audio could be ruined, even though you have LED level indicators. You never want to rely on level meters alone for audio levels. Also, this model doesn't have limiters to provide a safety zone for unexpected audio spikes, which are, again, a way to ruin a deposition video, because you're prohibited from sweetening in post, if that would rarely fix a distortion problem in the first place. I'd recommend an automatic mixer for depo's to cut interference, provide source monitoring and allow engaging limiters for extra safety. EVen the used vintage Shure FP410's would be an excellent choice. Gang two together for 8 channel capability. Or, the new Shure FP810s also. However, this is a nice solution for audio reinforcement use where real time monitoring is not an issue and where a baby Mackie would be an overkill. This would be great for a small corporate event, a personal house party, outdoor backyard event where you might want to incorporate both a mic and a line-level or consumer audio source in the mix. Send the signal to powered speakers and you're home free. I'm still not convinced that the omission of the power switch is a benefit. I kinda miss it. Seems odd. Rugged construction, like all Shure products, make this a durable purchase.

This is another great device from Shure! All the quality and ease of use I have come to expect from this brand. We rent this out as part of our house sound system in our event spaces. This allows more control for our guests in a basic an easy to use format. We have labeled the level knobs to make it easier for our guests to make on the fly changes. It gives our guests more control and eliminates headaches on our end.

I bought this for our company after using the hotel sound system with our sure wireless microphone and other line mixer. This far outperformed our own equipment so this purchase will allow the use of company PA equipment in a small portable mixer with awesome quality.

I really Love this mixer. Simple, compact and reliable. I use this for legal video in tabletop mode and I could not be happier with it. I realize there are smaller un it now, but for me and my application the size is ideal. The sound is clear, controls are sensitive and has all the feature I need.

I do video depositions and this is an awesome product. With its compact size and ease of use it makes set up and operation easy. The knobs are large enough for easy use and smooth. I am only recording voice. It also has enough mass that your not moving it while making minor adjustments to gain. It does not have a power switch and to me that's a plus. No accidental shut off.

Three to four person interviews, this delivers superb sound for the price. No detectable noise, and is very durable. Twenty three years and counting in the field.

Has anyone received one of these with the black button for phantom / line / mic not there? Mine has a hole where you insert a pointy object to press to engage. Is this a QC issue or did shure remove to insure it’s not pressed by accident? Thx for your time in advance.

This unit has recessed switches for line/mic level and also for phantom power on/off. Perhaps the rubber covers for those switches are missing on your mixer.

12V phantom power to the mic doesn't seem to be enough for my Shure condenser mic, do you recommend a 48v phantom power mixer model or a pre-amp addon?
Asked by: Alfas
As most condenser mics require 48V as opposed to 12, yes, there should be a 48V source in front of the Shure SCM268 4-Channel Microphone Mixer to connect a condenser mic. A simple solution would be BH #ROMP222 Rolls MP222 Studio Pro Dual-Channel Microphone Preamplifier.
