Canon RF 600mm f/11 IS STM Reviews
Great compact telephoto
I have used Canon equipment for many years and always purchased the L series lenses. The only non-L lenses I own are the 50 f/1.8 and this 600 f/11. My decision to buy both these lenses was based largely on cost with size and weight also being considered. The 600mm f/4L lens is $13,000, huge and heavy. This lens is much smaller, lighter and can be shot hand held. The optical quality is not perfect and it is f/11 but it is more than acceptable for many situations. This lens allows me to get shots I would have missed because it is easy to handle and does not require a tripod when shooting in bright daylight. If you can accept the limitations then this lens is a bargain in my opinion.
amazing midget lens
I bought this lens just to try it out with my R6, and so far I like the pictures I am taking.
Much better than the R 70-200 for long tele, so a good value
Comparing images using a Canon R5 and R 70-200 2.8 vs this lens, using a tripod: the 600mm wins hands down for long tele images. Yes it's not professional grade, but it performs well in its narrow niche. And it's light and stores small for 600mm. I'd prefer a f8, but fixed f11 is what is on the market today.
Good lens and Good price
Understanding the limitations of this lens and you will not be disappointed. It is F/11 and requires full sunlight. Knowing this and using correctly, the shots have been fantastic. The lens is lightweight and allows you to hand hold the shot.
Good Image Quality
After a friend let me try this lens on my R7 I wound up purchasing it for myself. I use it on my R7 crop sensor camera to give me a 960mm focal length equivalent. I hope to use this for BIF. The lens must be extended for it to function. It is not weather sealed and is made of plastic. It does have 3 switches: Stabilizer on/off, AF/MF, and a focus limiter switch (full or 12m to infinity. The focus area is limited to a max of 80% (I think), due to the 600mm prime is being used on a cropped sensor camera. Pros: Lightweight, Quick AF, Compact when not in use, focus limter Cons: Plastic lens, limited focus area, not weather sealed
Love the lens!
I have been loving this lens, it has helped out a lot with taking wildlife photos since I can't afford the other 600mm lens. I have noticed at times when it gets more cloudy the quality isn't as great but I still love this lens and have been having fun with it!
Great value 600mm!
I just purchased this lens and am still learning it's use. Very impressed. It's a great value. Nice construction, light weight. Can be hand held easily. With F11 you do need to use higher ISO values. Attached photo is of the beautiful ferns in our backyard. Note the clarity of the fern leaf.
Great bang for the Buck
I currently have a 150-600 Sigma lens that works well however it is very heavy and cumbersome to use. I purchased the Canon R7 and thought this might be a perfect combination but was suspect that the quality might be questionable, however to date the hand held images have been excellent. I have only used it a few times and need to experiment with it to truly evaluate its true potential. The 960mm reach is amazing for a lens of this weight and the price is attractive. Hopefully it keeps performing as well down the road.
