Gorgeous Prints!

So far the print quality has surpassed my expectations. Prints are gorgeous. Setup was a breeze. Printing wirelessly from my iMac Pro to the PRO-300 with no issues at all. Yes it's a good chunk of money but these first couple of weeks - and initial print sales have shown me that this has been a good investment. Make sure to use premium-quality papers to get the most out of this printer. Prints with the Canon-supplied papers are really nice. But...when I used the Hahnemuhle Photo Rag Baryta print quality went into the stratosphere. I'm happy with this purchase.

Hard to access paper profiles

This printer was easy to set up using the supplied guide and on screen instructions- I used the simplest direct cable to the computer. I wanted to print using Lightroom, and I hoped to use up my remaining Epson paper. Under the Lightroom manages print job profiles,I could not find much.I later found out,via the tnternet that this is Canon's attempt to channel printing to Managed by printer, and no surprise here, the appropriate Canon paper .automatically. I did learn later of a multi step method of loading profiles into the Canon drivers. But this is very tedious and obviously not offered by Canon. I found that by going past the Wrong paper or size loaded screen to Use the loaded paper , and checking glossy paper, I could reasonably match Epson Premium Photo Paper Glossy.

The difference is in the print

I wrestled with making the right choice for my photography to be the best it could be in the end result. I had other printers that were substandard for me, so I did away with them pretty quickly. This one has found a home in my office. This pigment printer gives me what I have been looking for, museum quality prints.

Nice printer, nice size

I wanted to replace my Pro 9000 MKII. I went back and fourth between this and the larger Pro-1000. I don't print often and as I kept reading about the waste tanks on the 1000 needing to be replaced often ( wasted ink ), I decided on the Pro-300. I don't know if the 300 will really waste less ink than the 1000, but I also figured the 300 is newer, the 1000 is getting old. As far as the Pro-300, I am very happy with the results. I use this to print from both a digital camera and film scans. I got things calibrated to the point the the prints match my monitors well. For me, the printer is fast enough, 80% 4x6 20% up to 13x19. I like that I can put heavier paper in the top vs the rear for the 9000. I've probably made about 25 color pints now, ink usage does not seem bad, will need longer to tell. I do notice that when the printer has been off a while, it will go through a shaking process, then clean the heads. I do not notice my ink getting sucking down every time I turn it on. First set of ink still shows mostly full. Will be interesting to see if they just go empty all at once. Ink usage for what I print ( out door pics, landscapes, flowers, wildlife ) seems pretty even with photo black being just a tab more. I also will be printing BW photos, though other than a single test print, have not done any, so can't comment on those yet. The printer also seem pretty solid with a reasonable foot print ( a tad smaller than the 9000 ). Setup was quick and easy, I'm printing over wired LAN. Overall, happy with the printer, have not found any negatives yet.

After wearing out the Canon 1000, I decided to replace it with the small Pro-300. I am very pleased with the quality of color prints, and this printer is much less finicky than the 1000. I have not yet printed a B&W print, but I have my fingers crossed that it will perform well in B&W too.

Great results / complicated setup

After a couple of weeks, I got good results in mostly b/w. However, the setup was a needed a little time consuming.

I typically use PhotoShop to print directly to my Canon printers and control parameters, bypassing as much of the Canon written (usually mis-written) software as possible. Is anyone doing that with the PRO-300 and, if so, how is it working?
Asked by: Jeff
I will print about 2000 prints this year with about half printed directly from Photoshop. It works fine other than Photoshop print dialog tends to be slow. The workflow from Photoshop for high volume can be annoying as each has to be printed one at a time. I could offer more advice on workflows and my experience but that goes beyond the scope of this question. Look for a review here shortly.

If the Olympus cameras is connected to the WIFI Network then you should be able to print using this printer. I download my pictures to my PC and print from my PC, which is on the network. I also direct print from this print using my iPad, with no problems.
