Designed as your go-to multipurpose outdoor optic, the Celestron 8x42 Regal ED Binocular features a suite of technologies and design features that will make it an essential part of your kit whether you're hunting, birding, or hiking.

Anti-reflection fully multicoated high-performance extra-low dispersion glass lenses with integrated field flatteners deliver crisp, true-color images of breathtaking landscapes and vistas free from distortion. Phase-corrected and dielectric-coated BAK4 roof prisms maximize light transmission through the prism system, limiting internal diffraction and interference and improving image resolution and contrast. The combination of 8x magnification and 42mm objectives help to produce a wide exit pupil and an exceptionally-long eye relief that virtually eliminates eye strain to greatly improve your glassing experience. When you put all these optical features together, you are presented with crisp and sharp high-contrast wide angle views with accurate color across the entire visible spectrum with limited distortion, especially at the edges.

Complementing its optical performance is a lightweight magnesium housing that is nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to make it waterproof and resistant to internal fogging when you move through extreme changes in temperature or environmental conditions. The body features an ergonomic design with rubber armor and strategically placed texture that offers a secure hold and a pleasant handling experience, with the large center focusing knob providing smooth adjustments. To help you with focusing and correcting for dioptric differences, the focus knob and the diopter ring are knurled and can be easily adjusted even when wearing gloves. Ideal for fast glassing on the go, the Regal ED comes with tethered caps that won't get lost when you're out and about and a shoulder harness that eliminates strain on your neck and prevents it from swaying and swinging if you need to climb over rough and rocky terrain.

Optical Performance
  • Moderate 8x magnification brings subjects in close for observation while preserving the wide field of view, comfortable exit pupil, and exceptional eye relief
  • 42mm objective lenses draw in the light required to extend its use in challenging conditions without being too bulky or heavy
  • Roof prism light path keeps the optical tubes thin for easier handling and packing
  • BAK4 prisms deliver a round exit pupil and a crisp and clear image with limited edge distortion
  • Phase-corrected prism coatings reduce internal interference to improve contrast and resolution
  • Highly reflective dielectric prism coatings maximize light transmission through the prism system
  • Extra-low dispersion (ED) glass lenses offer true color representation, with improved clarity, contrast, and sharpness across the entire field of view
  • Integrated field flatteners correct lens edge distortion to produce crisp views across the entire field of view
  • Anti-reflection fully multicoated optics enhance light transmission for brighter and sharper views with enhanced contrast
  • Short 4.9' minimum focus distance is ideal for observing small subjects like hummingbirds, bugs, insects, flora & fauna at close range like at feeders or in gardens
  • Wide 64° apparent angle of view presents an immersive observational experience, limiting the need for the user to move their head side to side to see the entire landscape
  • Spacious 420-foot field of view at 1000 yards
Use and Handling
  • Closed-bridge configuration provides a stable platform for the internal focusing mechanism
  • Large knurled focus wheel is easy to manipulate in cold and wet weather or when wearing gloves
  • ±2 diopter adjustment on the right ocular enables precise focusing even for users who normally wear corrective lenses
  • Twist-up click-stop rubber eye cups for comfortable viewing with or without eyewear
  • Integrated 1/4"-20 socket on front of bridge hinge enables the use of an optional tripod adapter for hands-free viewing
  • Exceptional 22.5mm eye relief helps to eliminate eye strain, especially during long glassing sessions
  • 5.25mm exit pupil will cover pupils in low and challenging light conditions, ensuring the entire scene remains in view without vignetting
Construction Details
  • Strong and lightweight magnesium housing
  • Slip-resistant armor with textured palm pads improve grip security
  • Nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof and resistant to internal fogging

Celestron Regal ED 8x42 Reviews

Far exceeds $1000 Nikon

8x42 Blown away. When I received them I was very impressed. It had been a few years since I had used some other great Binoculars but my first impression was that these might be as good as the best I have ever used. Was not sure until I had a chance to compare with a friend. He had a pair of $1000 Nikon 10x42. Four different people used both and with zero hesitation declared the Celestrons easily superior. WOW

Nice and bright, as to be expected with an 8X42. Eye relief is excellent, as advertised, very helpful for this eyeglasses wearer. Focus is smooth and precise.

Excellent optics

My score is 3 stars for the construction and 5 stars for the optics. Regarding the construction: (1) The Celestron badge on the side of the barrel is pealing off straight out of the box. (2) The eyecups are very loose. (3) They are kind of heavy. Regarding the optics: sharp almost to the edge, very little pincushion distortion and very little chromatic aberration. I agree with another reviewer that the sharpness, distortion and false color are all better than those provided by the $500-$1000 name-brand binoculars that I have tried and returned. I am keeping these.

Best Binoculars for The Price!

Like my Meade 8x42 Master Class Pro EDs, these Celestron 8x42 Regal EDs are the best binoculars I've ever looked through at this price! As do my Meades, these Celestron binoculars approach my Swarovski 8.5x42 ELs, are as good as my Zeiss 8x42 Conquest HDs and are better than my Leica 8x42 Trinovid HDs. They have excellent eye relief, a terrific 8 degree FOV, are tack sharp across the entire field with a very immersive view, like my Swarovski. Zeiss and Meades. I also like their hard carrying case and the included harness. Like the aforementioned binoculars, these Celestron Regals, performance wise, are easily my 5th pair of Alphas. They perform as well, and are in the same league, as my much more expensive European made binoculars. These binoculars are a total steal at this price and are worth at least $200-300 more. If you want European quality and don't want to break the bank, these are definitely your binoculars! I am so glad I made this purchase. Thanks, B&H!

The 8x42 Regal ED Binocular can be used while boating or viewing over water. However, for best results, any water movement should be kept at a minimum for clearer and more stable views.

For the Celestron Representative: are these Regal binoculars based on the previous Granite model with an additional flattening element? I would really appreciate some details on the differences between these models beside the flattener.
