Sennheiser MKE-200 Overview

Add the Sennheiser MKE 200 ultracompact and ultralightweight directional microphone to your camera- or smartphone-based shooting rig to make an easy upgrade in sound quality, even in noisy environments, without having to carry around a cumbersome windscreen and suspension system.

Thanks to its integral wind protection, built-in shock absorption, and battery-free operation, the MKE 200 is a truly simple, space-saving, plug-and-play solution for capturing audio—a perfect companion for vloggers, run-and-gun videographers, and mobile journalists who need a quality camera-mount mic that will never get in the way of the shot.

To ensure that you're prepared for any shoot, the MKE 200 includes two locking 3.5mm audio cables—one features a standard TRS plug for compatibility with cameras and DSLRs, while the other utilizes a TRRS plug to connect with your smartphone or tablet. Plus, the supplied furry windshield can be slipped over the MKE 200 to provide increased protection from wind noise when shooting in outdoor environments.

Ultracompact and Ultralightweight
Measuring just 2.7" long and weighing only 1.7 ounces, the MKE 200 is an unobtrusive companion for your camera- or smartphone-based video rig; it will never intrude on the shot and it's so light that you'll forget it's even there. Also, the integral shoe mount allows the MKE 200 to be attached directly to your camera, no external hardware required.
Directional Sound Pickup
Most built-in camera and smartphone microphones are omnidirectional to pick up sound from all directions, which results in undue noise and ambience. The MKE 200 uses a supercardioid polar pattern to capture sources in front of the mic while attenuating side- and rear-entry sound. Low-noise electronics and a sensitive condenser element allow it to deliver more detailed audio than the mics typically found in cameras, mobile devices, and portable recorders.
Quick and Secure Hookup to Camera, Smartphone, or Tablet
The MKE 200's 3.5mm output port can be connected to a range of devices using the two supplied coiled cables, each featuring a locking 3.5mm TRS plug on one end that prevents accidental disconnection at the mic.

One cable is terminated with a standard 3.5mm TRS plug for compatible hookup to your camera, DSLR, or portable handheld audio recorder, while the other cable has a 3.5mm TRRS plug to allow direct connection to mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.
No Batteries Required
Since the MKE 200 operates on plug-in power (2 to 10V), no batteries are required to run the microphone. Just hook up the MKE 200 to your camera or mobile device and forget about having to check, swap, or charge batteries.
Internal Suspension Mount Minimizes Handling Noise
The MKE 200 incorporates an internal suspension mount to reject the transfer of vibrations such as camera/smartphone handling noise. Plus, the bottom of the MKE 200 features a camera shoe mount, ensuring simple attachment to your camera or shoe-equipped stand or gimbal.
Built-In Wind Protection Minimizes Wind Noise
Knowing that the MKE 200 may be used in challenging shooting conditions, Sennheiser designed the MKE 200 with built-in wind protection, enabling the mic to lessen undesirable wind noise from breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners without requiring that you slip on a separate foam windscreen. For maximum reduction of wind noise in outdoor environments, use the included furry windshield.

I understand this mic was made primarily for cameras and smartphones/mobile, but would this work perfectly well on computers as well for video conferencing?
Asked by: J
In theory, yes, teh Sennheiser MKE 200 Ultracompact Camera-Mount Directional Microphone could be used with a computer for video conferencing. If the computer does not have a dedicated 3.5mm microphone input connection, an interface such as the Audio-Technica Consumer ATR2x-USB 3.5mm to USB 2.0 Type-C Audio Adapter (BH #AUATR2XUSB) could be used: https://bhpho.to/3uzc5Ra

Yes, you can use an adapter like the Kupo 1/4"-20 Male to 1/4"-20 Male Thread Adapter (B&H # KUKG007412) which will attach to the female thread on the bottom of the mic's shoe mount.

Does this mic work with the native Apple video camera and Filmic Pro app?
Asked by: Ian
Hi Ian - the MKE 200 comes standard with both a 3.5mm TRS cable (for DSLR and Mirrorless cameras), as well as a 3.5mm TRRS cable for use with smartphones. Pair this cable with the Apple Lightning to 3.5mm Headset adapter ($9) and you'll be able to use the MKE 200 with the native video camera as well as with the FilMic Pro app. The Apple adapter is available from B&H here: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/find/accessories.jsp/sku/1280795/is/REG

What cable do I use to connect with an iPhone 10?
Asked by: Kimberly
For connection to your iPhone, use the 3.5mm TRS to 3.5mm TRRS cable that is included with the microphone. The TRS end connects to the mic's output and then attach an Apple Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter (B&H # APLAADAP) onto the TRRS end of the cable which converts the plug to Lightning for connection to your iPhone.

Is it possible to monitor audio with headphones ...

Is it possible to monitor audio with headphones while recording with this mic? What would the setup be?
Asked by: John
If using this mic with a camera, you would use the headphone output of the camera to monitor audio. When used with a smartphone, there is no headphone option, unless you use the TRS cable meant for a camera and attach an adapter to the phone, such as the Sabrent 3.5mm Combo Headset to Microphone and Headphone Y-Splitter Cable, BH #SACBAUHM. this will allow for the signal to e split so you can connect a TRS mic and have an output for headphone monitoring.
