High-Resolution Photo and Video
Compact and capable, the Nikon Z5 is an FX-format mirrorless camera with a well-rounded feature-set to suit both photo and video needs. Its 24.3MP CMOS sensor and EXPEED 6 processor afford wide sensitivity to ISO 51200, quick shooting at 4.5 fps, and UHD 4K video at 30 fps. Complementing the sensor and processor is a sleek but versatile physical design that includes a magnesium alloy chassis with a weather-sealed construction to suit working in inclement weather. A high-resolution 3.6m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder allows for high-res eye-level viewing while a rear 3.2" 1.04m-dot tilting touchscreen LCD accommodates working from high and low angles. Additionally, for easy sharing, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth work in conjunction with the Nikon SnapBridge app for wirelessly transferring photos and videos and remotely controlling the camera from your mobile device.
24.3MP FX-Format CMOS Sensor and EXPEED 6 Image Processor
The full-frame, FX-format 24.3MP CMOS sensor is paired with an EXPEED 6 image processor to provide a versatile mixture of high sensitivity, nuanced image quality, and fast overall performance. A native sensitivity range from ISO 100-51200 permits working in a broad array of lighting conditions and can be further expanded up to ISO 102400 for extreme low-light conditions. The mixture of resolution and sensor size also contributes to clean image quality and smooth color transitions with reduced noise throughout the sensitivity range. In addition to benefitting image quality, the EXPEED 6 processor also affords useful speed throughout the camera system, including a top full-resolution continuous shooting rate of 4.5 fps as well as the ability to take 8MP when recording video.

Besides imaging, the sensor's design also incorporates a 273-point hybrid autofocus system that uses both phase-detection and contrast-detection methods to quickly and accurately acquire focus for both stills and video applications. This focusing system supports Eye Detection AF, which uses facial recognition to help lock focus onto subjects' eyes, along with Face Detection for both stills and video and for both humans and animals.
UHD 4K Video Recording
Capable of recording more than just stills, the Z5 supports UHD 4K video recording at up to 30 fps and Full HD recording at up to 60 fps, with the ability to save movie files to the in-camera memory cards or to an optional external recorder via HDMI out. UHD 4K recording uses a 1.7x crop of the center portion of the frame while Full HD recording uses the entire full frame. Additionally, in-camera time-lapse shooting is also possible with the ability to produce a finished UHD 4K video file directly from the camera.
Sensor-Shift Vibration Reduction
Built-in to the body is a 5-axis sensor-shift Vibration Reduction (VR) mechanism that compensates for up to five stops of stabilization regardless of the lens in use. This system also works with adapted lenses, when using the optional FTZ Adapter, where 3-axis stabilization is used. Also, benefitting video recording, Electronic VR is available to help steady footage to suit handheld shooting.
Body Design and Connectivity
  • A large 3.2" 1.04m-dot LCD screen is available for bright, clear, and vivid image playback and live view shooting. The screen has a tilting design to suit working from high and low angles and it is also a touchscreen for more intuitive operation, navigation, and settings control.
  • A 3.69m-dot electronic finder is present for comfortable eye-level viewing.
  • Dual SD memory cards slots both support up to the UHS-II protocol for high-speed and efficient photo and video file saving.
  • A robust magnesium alloy chassis is both dust- and weather-resistant to benefit working in harsh climates and inclement conditions.
  • Built-in SnapBridge connectivity to enable seamless transfer of low-resolution imagery as well as remote shooting capabilities. BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) and Wi-Fi enables communication between the camera and a smart device and, additionally, the mobile device can remotely trigger the shutter and display a live view image from the camera to enable working from a distance.
  • Included EN-EL15c rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides approximately 470 shots per charge, and in-camera charging is supported via USB, even when the camera is in use. Additionally, it is also compatible with optional MB-N10 multi-battery power pack for extended shooting times.
Other Camera Features
  • Creative Picture Controls: Dream, Morning, Pop, Sunday, Somber, Dramatic, Silence, Bleached, Melancholic, Pure, Denim, Toy, Sepia, Blue, Red, Pink, Charcoal, Graphite, Binary, and Carbon.
  • Multiple Exposure mode lets you combine several exposures into one frame for creative effects.
  • Focus Shift mode automatically takes a series of up to 300 sequential images while advancing the focus position in each shot. These images can then be stacked into a single image with extended depth of field, making it ideal for close-up shooting of smaller objects as well as for landscapes and other still subjects.
  • Language support: English, French, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish.

Nothing special here, after 60 years of dedicated to Nikon seems the biggest motivation is to make us buy aa whole line of NEW not Better. Great for Nikon but the loyal customer does not matter.

Takes great photos and the in-camera effects are useful but the Live View monitor leaves a lot to be desired when doing Tabletop work under artificial light.

Z5 Review

Very happy with this camera. It is not that heavy and after owning several Nikon cameras, it was fairly easy to learn the menus and other features. I also bought it with the 24 to 120 mm f4 lens. With that lens the camera/lens is pretty heavy, but very versatile. Later on I bought a 28 mm lens and that mounted on the Z5 makes for a great Street camera system. It is very light and nimble. I think the camera would have been better with a built in flash to use as a"fill flash". Now I have to use my old SB 400 as a fill flash. My worry is that if the SB400 dies I'll have to look carefully for another flash like it that is as small and light. Overall the image quality is excellent. I really like how the camera works in the manual mode and with my older lenses (with the lens adapter). The videos I have made are very good. Recommend to get a longer strap for all around carry.

Great to Return to Nikon

After years with Nikon in film days, and some time with early DX digital Nikons, I switched to Sony and then Fuji. All great cameras and lens, but I wanted to try Nikon in digital full frame and the Z5 with this light and excellent lens. I am very pleased with the image quality and comfortable feel of the Nikon body an it's familiar menus. One very minor negative is the camera bag that came with this kit. It is too small to comfortably hold the Z5 with this lens mounted, particularly with the lens hood on the lens even in the reversed storage orientation.

Sleeper...best camera specs-to-price ratio (in my opinion)

I starting using the Nikon z system for over 2 years now and it is because of this camera, I love Nikon's characteristic in producing photos. It produces photos that look like film photos, but with just enough digital design. I appreciate the amazing dynamic range I can work with and the autofocus is fast. Don't be fooled by those who say it could be faster or better because you can't let the camera do all the work and then complain it's too slow. We are blessed in today's digital advancement and we need to remember that the gear is just as good as its user. Back to the review, the f-mount lenses adapted to this camera with the FTZ adapter works wonders! The 85mm f1.8 G is so sharp and this camera takes it to another level. DUAL CARD SLOTS btw!! Overall, if you are in need of a great (and reliable) camera and are looking for your first full frame camera, this is the camera is the one for you. Depending on the time you are reading this, keep a look out on Black Friday (I got my Z5 body with an FTZ adapter for only $999). This is fast auto focusing camera on both video and photo modes. Canon RP is fine for photo, but unreliable for video (MFT cameras like the Lumix g9 is way better...). I've worked with the Canon RP for about a year and Lumix cameras for over 4 years.

I am little surprised

My goto camera has been a Nikon D850 and I have used it for a fair number of years. I bought this for snapshots. I was surprised. It doesn't have the number of pixels the D850 has but it IS sharp; it has much of the control offered by the D850; and it is very easy to use. I still use the D850 for precise work and for tough situations but this has become an often used tool. And it is very light. Very nice !

Vello BG-N21 Battery Grip for Nikon Z 5, Z 6, Z 6 II, Z 7, and Z 7 II Mirrorless Camera 2. Watson EN-EL15c Lithium-Ion Battery Pack (7V, 2250mAh) 1. Nikon EN-EL15c Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery Have been learning for pass 3 weeks and loving it. There are some great features and some ill never use. If you want a basic Mirror less this is it. I am a photographer that uses Fstop, shutter speed and iso.. I got the adaptor for my currents lenses and very satisfied. I will be getting a lens that is specific for my Z5 soon. Yes its all about budget.

My 2nd Z5!

I moved up (I thought) from my Z5 and purchased a Z9, then gave my Z5 to my youngest son. Fast forward to last week when I purchased a second Z5. There is something I loved about that body (and the results), and thought the Z9 would fill it .. it did not, thus another great Z5!

The rotation system on the Nikon Z5 Mirrorless Camera is designed to be vertical or horizontal, not face up or down, so it will not reliably display when the camera is upside down.
