Second Review - Using Z6 II

The first review I wrote was using my Z6 shooting the Z 100-400mm zoom. This time I was using my Z6 II with the 100-400mm zoom and the MD N-11 battery grip. If anything, the Z6 II with the battery grip gave me a much nicer sense of balance with the 1.4 X teleconverter mounted to the lens. It was another breezy day here in Florida and the added weight helped keep things stable. Now that I am getting used to the teleconverter I am finding I am getting more consistent results. I shot everything from bugs to birds in flight and the results speak for themselves. The teleconverter is going to be a permanent fixture on the Z6 II with the 100-400mm zoom and battery grip!

No noticeable degradation of image quality or autofocus accuracy or speed on the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 S or my Nikon 100-400mm S lenses.

I was leery at first

I bought this directly from Nikon but only because B&H has it on back order. I had heard great things about it in combination with the Nikon 100-400 Z mount zoom. I shot with the Nikon Z6, 100-400mm zoom and 1.4X teleconverter. On my first day out in the bush with it the light was bad, and the birds were not cooperating. When I got home and put the images on my computer, I felt the converter was less sharp than I had been led to believe. I was thinking of just selling it. However, I decided to give it another chance at a place I am familiar with and have good access to birds. I could not have been more pleased. I am including images from that day. I shot everything handheld at as low as 1/350th a sec and up to 1/640th. The shots in this review range from 200mm up to 560mm. The small bird is cropped to almost actual pixel size. The focus hunting was not as bad as I thought it would be, but I think I need to work on my technique for birds in flight. If I were you and was shooting Nikon Z cameras and owned either the 80-200mm or 100-400mm Z mount lenses I would consider this for my camera bag.

Looking forward to trying.

Works Great

I bought this teleconverter to go with a Nikon Z 100-400mm /4.5-56 S lens and a Nikon Z 70-200 /2.8 S lens. It works great on both lenses. The resulting images appear to be sharp from corner to corner. For those new to teleconverters, this TC reduces the depth of field by 30%, which adds to the bokeh effect of your image. You do lose 1 f/stop of light. The TC retains all of the camera's pixel counts, autofocus, vibration reduction, minimum focusing distances, and works all the way down to f/11.

Yes, like most teleconverters, the Nikon Z Teleconverter TC-1.4x does make a sound rattle sound. If you feel it is louder than normal, best is to contact B&H customer service.

I realize this question has been asked twice but the answer has just been no and i would like to know why. If one has a Z camera with an FTZ adaptor why wont a Z teleconverter work with an F-Lens? Your basically just switching positions with the FTZ and Tele.
Asked by: Jay
The reason that this won't work is because the opening on the back of the FTZ Adapter is not large enough for the extending piece of the teleconverter to fit inside.
