Nikon Z Teleconverter TC-1.4x Reviews

When switched to Nikon Z from from Nikon SLR F sold my Tamron 150-600 lens. Started shooting birds with Nikkor Z100-400 f4.5-5.6, which proved to be not quite long enough for bird photography. Added this Teleconverter, which proved to provide ample reach.

Seems sharp

I’ve only had this a week or so, but in my limited experience so far it seems quite sharp when used with my Z 180-600 lens. I’ve tested it with the zoom lens fully extended at 600, giving a combined length of 840 mm. At that setting I had to be very careful to focus exactly on the right thing, though (a bird’s eye, for example) because the depth of field is so shallow. (This is a function of the laws of optics, not the design of the lens.) I’m not sure how often I will actually need 840 mm, but I am satisfied with the quality of the lens.

Does this TC-1.4x impact the sharpness, autofocus speed and low light photography of the Nikon Z 400mm f4.5S for birds?
Asked by: Steven
All teleconverters impact sharpness, autofocusing speed and definitely light regardless of the lens. However the Nikon Z 1.4X teleconverter does an impressive job of keeping the degradation to a minimum, it's barely noticeable. The autofocus speed will also work great. The only thing you'll actually notice is the stop loss in light, dropping the f/4.5 aperture to f/6.3.

can this tc be used with ftz adapter ?
Asked by: Surinder
The Nikon Z Teleconverter TC-1.4x is for Z-mount mirrorless lenses and can't be used with the Nikon FTZ adapter. If you have a compatible F-mount telephoto lens, you can use the Nikon AF-S Teleconverter TC-14E III. You can find the lens and the compatibility list here: https://bhpho.to/3YR8SN8.
