Absolutely amazing. I use it on my 70 to 200 Nikon Z S lense. Clarity is unbelievable!

Does not fit all Z lenses

Would love to give it a 5-star rating, but it doesn't fit the DX 50-250/4.5-6.3 on my Z50.

Has its place in my bag

Does as advertised with caveats detailed by experts testing. Quite useful in some scenarios but not magically so. Some reviewers found camera side connection to be disappointing but not here. Tight and solid on both sides (on Z 70-200 S).

Z Teleconverter and Soccer

Added the TC-2x Z teleconverter to my Nikon Z 70-200 f2.8 lens for a granddaughter's soccer games. It worked great. Even with the two stop change from f2.8, the increase in telephoto still allows for the shallow depth of field I wanted in my sports shoots. Looking forward to her next game!

It's Not Your Dad's TC

Purchased this for my 70-200z 2.8. Tested it on the Z7& Z6 and it works flawlessly. Picture quality is very good even at 400mm/5.6. Worked on taking some images of birds on the backyard feeders and captured some nice shots. Focus speed on 70-200mm was a tad slower than without the TC but that's not a huge issue for me. It really wasn't significant anyway. I intend to use it mostly for landscape and occasional wildlife/birding. I do have the super sharp 500mm PF as dedicated wildlife/birding lens. The image quality on the 70-200 combo is a bit creamier, which is fine. I was looking at adding the 100-400z ($2,500!!!) to my collection but this is a nice compromise given the cost. For less than $600 or 1/4 the price, I get to use my 70-200z 2.8 and use it as a lens that's almost on par with the 100-400mm. Really can't go wrong with either option. Very happy with my purchase.

Amazing 2X Teleconverter

I have tried all the teleconverters for the Nikon DSLRs. To be honest, I have not really been impressed with any of them. I have also noticed that the clarity goes down as the magnification goes up (as expected). After receiving the 2x for the Z lens, I tried the 2X with my Z8 and the 70 to 200 2.8 Z. I was totally blown away. The sharpness from edge to edge was amazing; equally as good as native 400 mm f5.6 lens. The only issue was the 2 F stop reduction in speed and the stabilization built into the Z8 helped that in many situations. The teleconverter is pricey but in my opinion, it is worth every cent.

Great Optics

Works well with the Z8 and 100-400 z lens. Even with losing 2 stops, it has great optics and performs well

Compatibility issues in some cases seem to be ...

Compatibility issues in some cases seem to be more mechanical/coupling than electrical/contacts. A Q&A answer by Ryan (B&H Staff) under the Z TC-1.4x teleconverter noted that that teleconverter won't work with the FTZ because the opening on the back of the FTZ Adapter is not large enough for the extending piece of the teleconverter to fit inside. As the diameter of the extending piece of this Z TC-2x teleconverter is distinctly smaller than that of the Z TC-1.4x, would this teleconverter work with the redesigned FTZ II adapter?
Asked by: Matthew
We tested the FTZ II with the Nikon Z Teleconverter TC-2X and while the optical tube does indeed fit into the FTZ II, the FTZ II and TC-2X were unable to couple correctly or lock into each other. Unfortunately this means they are by design not compatible. Furthermore, the extended optical tube likely needs to be as close as possible to the rear element in order to function correctly, and when mounted onto the FTZ II from behind would likely not allow the teleconverter to function correctly with your F-mount lens even if it was able to couple to the FTZ II adapter.

will this teleconver work with AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED?
Asked by: Anonymous
No, the Nikon Z Teleconverter TC-2x will not work with the Nikon AF-S VR Zoom-NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED Lens. The Nikon Z Teleconverter will only work when mounted directly to specific Z-mount lenses, it will not work with any F-mount lenses even when using the FTZ adapter. The only things that would work with that 70-300mm lens are some third party teleconverters for the F-mount, thoughquality can suffer and the camera may struggle to focus. As a thiurd party option I would look at the Kenko Teleconverter linked here, https://bhpho.to/3wVZQiE.

Can I use the Nikon Z7 ii, with Nikon Z TC-2X, then FTZ adapter and finally an AFS 500mm f/5.6 PF ED VR telephoto lens?
Asked by: janos
I use a Z9 with the 500 AFS great results. Most of the time I use the TC1.4x and occasionally with the TC2.0x. The focusing speed and accuracy with the TC2.0x drops off is a step compared to the TC1.4x but you can make it work satisfactorily. I use the FTZII to mate the lens/TC combo to the Nikon Z9. I suspect that the performance of Z7ii and the 500 PF/TC2.0 x will not be to your liking. There is a large difference in the computing power between the Z9 and the Z7ii in terms of autofocus calculations and sensor scene analysis. You should rent the gear first and test the performance to see if it works to your liking.
