Samyang 85mm f/1.4 MK2 Overview

An apt telephoto prime for portraiture and other selective compositions, the FUJIFILM X-mount 85mm f/1.4 WS Mk2 Lens from Samyang is characterized by its fast f/1.4 maximum aperture to suit working in low-light conditions and for controlling depth of field. The optical design incorporates one hybrid aspherical element that helps to reduce distortion and spherical aberrations for a high degree of sharpness and accurate rendering. An Ultra Multi-Coating has also been applied to reduce flare and ghosting in order to achieve greater contrast and color fidelity. The manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 3.6' away and a rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes a pleasing bokeh quality.

Telephoto prime is designed for APS-C-format FUJIFILM X-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 127.5mm equivalent focal length.
Fast f/1.4 maximum aperture offers a high degree of control over depth of field for working with selective focus and shallow depth of field techniques. Additionally, it also benefits working in low-light conditions with shorter shutter speeds.
One hybrid aspherical element is featured in the optical design to control spherical aberrations for improved clarity and sharpness throughout the aperture range.
An Ultra Multi-Coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize ghosting and flare for increased contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions.
Manual focus operation permits working with subjects as close as 3.6' away and an internal focusing design maintains the overall lens length during use.
The aperture ring de-click function allows the aperture ring not to be stopped at every f-stop in the way cine lenses do. This selectable function will allow brightness to be adjusted continuously and smoothly with much more details between the stops.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.
Weather-sealed design suits working in inclement weather conditions.

Samyang 85mm f/1.4 MK2 Reviews

Bokehlicious!

Quality built lens from Samyang. Solid construction, bit front heavy for the MFT system, but butter smooth manual focus, with amazing bokeh. I'm finding it sharp through out, and I am using this lens as a mid telephoto/close up lens. Aperture ring declicks for video, but I'm using it strictly for photography. Very pleased with the price and quality of this lens.

Great budget portrait lens

Not quite sure about the other review. My version securely fits my A7rii, A7iii, and A7siii just fine, focuses fine, and produces excellent bokeh. Like most Samyang/Rokinon products CA can be an issue in certain lighting scenarios. But for a sub $300 lens can you really complain?

Poor Quality

This lens did not have a good fit, it would wiggle around in the mount. The image was never in focus either (probably because of the poor fitting)

Is there an additional piece that increases the length to mount to sony or is the photo as is to sony e mount?
Asked by: Matthew
Unfortunately this lens can not take a teleconverter so there is not an easy way to get more length out of this lens other than cropping.

When Zachariah answered Matthew (the very first question), Zach didn't understand the question. Matthew is asking if the photos here at B&H are showing the actual version of the lens that mounts to E mount because an adapter is needed to mount DSLR lenses to Sony or the adapter is built-in to the lens such that a lens for Sony e-mount is longer than a lens for Nikon or Canon DSLR. Matthew is not asking about a teleconverter. Is the lens shown here at B&H actually the Sony E mount version? I don't see how that is possible. So is the 4" dimension listed in the specs for the Sony version or SLR version of the lens? B&H lists the length of the lens as 3.96" for both the Sony E mount and the Canon EF version, and I don't see how that is possible.
Asked by: Mark
The lens shown is the Sony version, this lens will mount directly to any Sony E mount camera. This lens and the Canon are same size as well. The Canon option is the EF-M version which would be for the crop sensor Canon mirrorless, not any of the DSLRs.
