Apple iMac 27" 5K Display Mid 2020 Overview

Take your creative ideas from conception to completion with the 27" iMac with Retina 5K Display from Apple. Intuitive and packed with powerful tools, you'll be able to take your ideas to the next level, and the 27" display will further elevate your experience, alongside an improved processor, graphics, memory and storage, and enhanced audio and video capabilities.

With a 5K (5120 x 2880) screen resolution, this iMac provides one billion colors and 500 nits of brightness. The Retina 5K display also features the wider P3 color gamut, which provides a larger color space that shifts away from standard white LEDs to red-green phosphor LEDs that more equally represent red, green, and blue. And with more available colors, the images will appear more vivid and reveal greater detail, with more balance and precision. The display is further enhanced by True Tone technology for a more natural viewing experience

The iMac's processor has been upgraded and now houses an 10th Gen 3.6 GHz Intel Core i9 10-Core (10th Gen) as well as 32GB of DDR4 RAM that can be upgraded to 128GB by using all four SO-DIMM slots. Visuals are powered by a dedicated AMD Radeon Pro5300 graphics card with 4GB of GDDR6 VRAM, and for storage, there is a 2TB PCIe SSD.

Outfitted with Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) and backwards compatible with 802.11a/b/g/n for speedy hook-ups to your home network, this iMac is also configured with Bluetooth 5.0, as well as a UHS-II SDXC card slot, two 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 ports, four USB Type-A ports, a Gigabit Ethernet jack, and a 1080p FaceTime HD camera. It also has a Kensington lock slot for added security.

Apple's 27" iMac with Retina 5K Display operates using 100-240 VAC at 50-60 Hz and includes an Apple Magic Keyboard, an Apple Magic Mouse 2, a Lightning to USB Type-A cable, and a power cord. Protection is provided by 90 days of complimentary technical support and a limited 1-year warranty, which can be extended by purchasing AppleCare+ for Mac.

This Mac comes preloaded with macOS. Updates can be downloaded for free via the Mac App Store. Please check Apple's website for upgrade eligibility.

Retina Display
Everything looks better on a Retina display, with its one billion colors and 500 nits of brightness. Photos and graphics leap off the screen. Text is supersharp. And for the first time, the 2" iMac features True Tone technology for a more natural viewing experience.
Processor and Memory
iMac and powerful processors go hand in hand. The 27" model offers up to a 10-Core Intel Core i9 processor to sail through heavy tasks like layering dozens of audio tracks or compiling and testing code. It can also be configured with up to 128GB of memory, which is double the capacity of the previous generation, to fly through the most complex pro workflows up to twice as fast.
Graphics
The graphics on iMac make everything a sight to behold. The 27" model brings the AMD Radeon Pro 5300 graphics card with 4GB of GDDR6 VRAM for graphics-intensive workflows like editing UHD video or developing lifelike game environments.
Storage
All-flash SSD storage is now standard on all iMac models, bringing high capacity and lightning speed. The 27" iMac can now be configured with up to 8TB of SSD storage with up to 3.4 GB/s sequential read and write speeds, for screaming-fast access to all of your photo and video libraries, massive files, and pro apps.
Camera, Speakers, and Mics
From crystal clear video calls and voice recordings to music and movies that fill the room, iMac is an all-star for communications and content. The 27" iMac now features a 1080p FaceTime HD camera and a studio-quality three-mic array. And the T2 chip acts in concert with the speakers to enable variable EQ and an enhanced bass response, so all your content can have big, balanced high-fidelity sound.
Apple T2 Security Chip
The Apple T2 Security Chip comes to the 27" iMac, with a Secure Enclave coprocessor that provides the foundation for secure boot and encrypted storage capabilities. The T2 chip also enables powerful features like the 1080p FaceTime HD camera, face detection, enhanced speaker bass response, and "Hey Siri" - and makes transcoding HEVC video up to twice as fast as the previous generation.
Connectivity
Every iMac features two superfast Thunderbolt 3 (USB Type-C) ports and four USB 3.0 Type-A ports, giving you plenty of high-performance options for connecting external drives, cameras, displays, and more. All iMac models come with a 1Gb Ethernet port, and now you can configure the 27" iMac with 10Gb Ethernet for up to 10 times the throughput of the previous generation. There is also Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) and Bluetooth 5.0, so you're instantly connected to your favorite content and wireless devices.
Apple Accessories
Magic Mouse 2 and Magic Keyboard pair perfectly with iMac and come included in the box. If you're looking for extra functionality, Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad and Magic Trackpad 2 offer some impressive options.

Perfect replacement for my 2013 iM

A perfect replacement for my 2013 iMac! My older iMac was still performing, but it could not process the newer versions of Adobe products. Apple could not support the older model. The new computer works like the older iMac, but has the newer processor that speeds everything up! Easy set up!

Needing an updated iMac, I went to a local discount retail chain to check out which iMac models were on display. The store had one low-budget model on display. However, I couldn't access the specs, because the mouse didn't work. The sales person suggested that I check out the on-line store, which I did. I selected the model and ordered it. The order somehow got sent to a warehouse in Jacksonville. The store manager phoned me and told me that he would have it shipped to my home address. I got notification from UPS that it was en route and would arrive at my home in two days. Four days later I was notified that it had arrived in my city. Two days later I was informed that the package had been delivered to a dock in Atlanta, which was a C***o warehouse. d. Three weeks later I returned it to the local warehouse and received a full refund. I phoned B&H and was transferred to a computer expert, who asked me at least a dozen questions as to my principal use, which is photography, The B&H expert suggested an upgrade PLUS enhanced RAM memory, which would be installed by B&H. BOTTOM LINE: the B&H pros have uncanny computer expertise, and they don't hesitate to discover your precise needs,

I was going back and forth between the 27 and the 24 because of price. I call B&H to ask a few questions. I don't know the guy's name who I spoke to, but he was super helpful. I ended up getting the 27 8GB , 1TB and had B&H add some additional RAM before shipping. It was a lot cheaper to have the additional RAM added by B&H than to by a computer with 40 GB of Ram. The delivery was quick. A lot faster if I had to special order through Apple. Thank you B&H!

FedEx sent my package with a huge kick on the side of it but once I open and check everything out, it was ok. This is not anything that B&H was at fault about but I wish they could have used another carrier. But nevertheless the price of the iMac was good, and they were the only ones that I found in stock.

Yes, the ram would be 2 x 16 for a total of 32 GB. You can add an additional 32gb pr 64gb the max capacity for this machine is 128gb.

This particular model will satisfy standard 720p/1080p editing but not enough for 4K editing. The base model of the 2020 27-inch 5K iMac suited for 4K editing would be our BH# APZ0ZXMXWV26 (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1582108-REG/apple_z0zx_mxwv_26_bh_imac_27_3_8g_8c_10g_i7_8gb_512gb_rp_5700_8gb_standard.html). It comes with the AMD Radeon Pro 5700 with 8 GB VRAM. The graphics module is what's important here as it cannot be upgraded later. Even better is the Radeon Pro 5700 XT with 16 GB VRAM. Thought this system ships with 8GB RAM (system memory), RAM is upgradeable by the user up to 128 GB.

Yes, the Apple 27" iMac with Retina 5K Display (Mid 2020) BH #APZ0ZXMXWV06 is a good option for 3D work inside Photoshop although upgrading the RAM to at least 16GB (32GB ideally) will give you much better performance.

The manufacturer has not published what OS would be installed, but it most likely would have OS Catalina (OS 10.15). You would not be able to downgrade the OS to High Sierra (10.13).

What is the difference between the "New Release" (MFR #Z0ZX-MXWV-81-BH) and MFR #Z0ZX-MXWV-06-BH which seems to have the same specs but is $100 less?

The difference would be the type of Ethernet port. Z0ZX-MXWV-81-BH would have a 10GB Ethernet port. Z0ZX-MXWV-06-BH would have a1GB Ethernet port.
