Images are visibly better than those taken with Sony 70-300

I sold my Sony OSS 70-300 lens because I wasn't satisfied with most of the images it produced on my Sony A7iii. Even when shooting at 1/320 or faster, the sharpness and resolution were often disappointing. So far I'm really impressed with my new Tamron 70-300. It costs less than half the price of the comparable Sony. More important, images are sharp, the colors pop and the bokeh is pleasing. Sure, I wish the lens had image stabilization, a side control button and a locking feature, but I don't miss the added weight of the Sony. The Tamron is incredibly light yet it still feels solid and smooth. In fact, because the lens is lighter and slightly narrower than the Sony, it's easier to pull from my bag and switch lenses on the fly. That means I'll reach for it more often. I had also considered the Tamron 70-180 2.8, which is a sweet lens and certainly better for low light or in situations where you want to limit depth of field. But in the end, I wanted the longer reach of the 70-300. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase. It's a nice complement to my Sony OSS 24-105 4.0, which is my primary lens, and Sony 16-35 4.0. I keep a Sony 35 mm prime 1.8 for low-light situations.

Light weight travel gear

Light weight travel gear for landscape, portraiture, wildlife and birding! Paired with Sony A7C makes for a perfect compact telephoto zoom setup for hiking and travelling! Sharp, versatile and with a great reach using Sony camera feature like Clear Image Zoom which in combination with APSC crop mode effectively give a 2.25 times image zoom without much loss in image quality. This means my little Tamron 70-300 when paired with this compact full-frame camera can zoom up-to 675mm of telephoto range!! Just perfect!!!

The product overall is fantastic, quality of the lens exceeded my expectations, and the packaging was excellent with plenty of bubble wrap. On the other hand Fed Ex took weeks to deliver. Luckily the product arrived before Christmas as a gift.

How can such a good lens be at this price?

Honestly after purchasing so many lenses that were over $1000 of dollars, it was hard to adjust my standards. I purchased this lens for a gift but, WOW! Very light and covers all the focal lengths for any situation. I'm honestly surprised how they made this lens within this price point. If you are looking for something light and covers most of the crucial focal lengths and want something entry-mid level lens. Here it is!

How is this lens for Friday Night Football Games with A73 ?
Asked by: Hugh
It is a very good lens in general. But it is f/4.5-6.3. So not the best for low light compared to others. Depending on how dark it is you will need to up your iso. And it will not be as fast to Autofocus compared to an f/2.8 lens like a 70-200, https://bhpho.to/3s0NRMl .

Any idea if the IQ will be close to the Sony 70-350?
Asked by: Larry
At this time there is no reviews comparing the two lenses. The Tamron is not out yet and will not be till around October 30th. Chances are the Sony optics will be better. Note, the Sony 70-350 is not a full frame lens. It is for APS-C sensors. And the Tamron 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD Lens for Sony E is for full frame cameras.

No, but it is stiff enough not to slide while still being easy enough for smooth, non-jerky zooms.

Any advice on how to prevent the lens from "creeping"? I like to wear my camera with the Peak Design Strap connected to the side lug and tripod mount. With the strap slung diagonally across my torso, the camera rests comfortably and compactly on my side or back with the lens pointing down. It only takes a couple of minutes for the Tamron to fully extend.
Asked by: Petr
Anti-creep bands such as this LensBand help prevent creep when stretched diagonally over the zoom ring and the rest of the lens' body. https://bhpho.to/3DhntEB
