Epson WF-7840 Overview

A high performance, high-volume, wide-format printer, the WorkForce Pro WF-7840 All-in-One Inkjet Printer from Epson provides you with the essential functions of printing, scanning, copying, and faxing. Designed for high volume printing, users will enjoy sharp prints with a 4800 x 2400 dpi resolution and excellent print speeds up to 25 ppm in black and 12 ppm in color. The WorkForce Pro WF-7840 offers automatic duplex printing and provides built-in Wi-Fi for wireless connections to mobile devices where users can connect using the Epson Smart Panel app, Apple AirPrint, Mopria, and more. For handling media, the printer offers a two 250-sheet input trays, a 50-sheet rear tray, and a 50-sheet ADF for scanning and copying. An 11.7 x 17" flatbed scanner features an optical resolution of 1200 dpi, ensuring crisp images and copies are produced, and the unit can scan and copy legal size documents up to 11 x 17". Frustration with ink cartridges

I bought this product a few months ago and it was fine until the firmware update. After the update, the machine doesn't recognize the ink cartridges. I spent time on the helpdesk line and they told me to try new cartridges. Try? These aren't cheap to just try with hope it fixes the problem.

Great quality, but Ink Hog

I LOVE the print quality and scan ease and quality for letter and 11x17 sheets, BUT I am very angry about the rate of ink usage and the cost of cartridges. Although I've also had a brother printer that was an ink hog, so maybe all printers nowadays hog ink. I put a brand new black in cartridge in it after the one that came with the machine ran out. I got maybe 50-100 sheets TOPS through it and it's telling me my ink cartridge needs to be replaced again. Nothing I printed had excessive ink, it was mostly text reports and structural drawings that is just line-work. I never cleaned the heads so I wasn't wasting ink. Although it also says my waste box is almost full even though I've never cleaned the heads except whatever it does when its brand new and setting up.

Changing the print head is essentially a service/repair. You would need an authorized Epson service center to perform the service.

You can use inkjet compatible transfer paper with the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-7840 All-in-One Inkjet Printer, like the Epson Iron-On Cool Peel Transfer Paper (8.5 x 11", 10 Sheets), B&H # EPIOTL10.

This printer is an inkjet printer. Dye sublimation printers use a different print technology - you would need to find a printer that is an actual dye sublimation printer.

With my HP inkjet/OfficeJet printers, I have always set print quality to "draft" to reduce ink usage, and the print quality is always fine, even with pictures. How much would that decrease ink usage with the 7820and 7840? And are the results good?

I want to be able to scan a 12"x12" scrapbook page, will this be able to do it without cutting any of the page off?

According to Epson, the flatbed scanner is 11.7" x 17" and accommodates documents up to 11x17". It is quite possible that you will not be able to fit your scrapbook page in its entirety, or that the software might not physically be programmable to capture 12" on the shorter dimension.
