The LA-EA5 Adapter enables the use of Sony A-mount lenses on E-mount mirrorless camera bodies, and maintains full lens performance, including AF with SSM, SAM, and even AF lenses without an internal motor, as well as relays in-camera corrective features. Maintaining the functionality of both the lens and the camera, this adapter is tested to support phase-detection autofocus in order to provide Real-time Tracking and Eye AF functions, as well as quick continuous shooting up to 11 fps with AF/AE tracking. AF and AE tracking are even supported with lenses lacking an internal motor when working with the Alpha a7R IV and a6600 cameras. The adapter has no optical components to affect image quality and its fully electronic design also retains Exif data transmission to benefit post-production and file management. Additionally, its sleek cylindrical design is well-suited to camera bodies with an attached vertical grip.

Sony LA-EA5 Reviews
Sony LA-EA5 A-Mount to E-Mount adapter
Got the LA-EA5 adapter for my new a7RV, to work with my A-mount lenses. Works great, even with a 40yr-old Minolta 28-85mm lens!!
Works for my A-Mount Lenses
Thank you Sony! This adapter is Viagra for my Sony A-Mount lenses below. The focus and eye detect work fine when mounted on my A7IV They also work on my A7RII. I tried using the LA-EA4 adapter but it was a no-go. Werll-built, may or may not work with your A-mount lens
Sleek, well built, completely functional with some Sony A-mount lenses, partially functional with others. My f2.8 16/50 SSM and f4-5.6 70/400 G SSM II work flawlessly. My f2.8/100 macro has to be manually focused. The best I can say about other, or non-brand, lenses (old Sony kit lenses, Tamron, etc.) is that you can screw them onto your E-mount camera and probably take a picture. My advice...the adapter is cheap; If you have A-mount lenses you don't want to give up, get it and experiment...but start looking around for affordable E-mount lenses.
Works well
Works well with the 300mm f2.8. Little if any shooting lag. Some hun
Works great, wish it were more broadly supported
I had to buy this because my LA-EA4 doesn't support autofocus for my old Minolta screw drive lenses. It works just as described and doesn't need a translucent mirror, which is a big improvement. The price is reasonable, too, so it gets full marks from me. However, I wish Sony could do better with their firmware updates and broaden the compatibility of the EA4 and EA5. They still sell cameras that can't fully use the latter, and the former is now discontinued, and limited on newer bodies.
Works Fantastic With My Sony A7mIV And Vin Minolta AF Lenses
I've gone lens crazy after buying this adapter! I've bought more than 25 A-Mount lenses including the 50mm f1.4, 50mm f2.8 Macro, 100mm f2.8 Macro, 85mm f1.4, 70-210 f4 zoom, Tokina 300mm f2.8, Sigma 50-500mm f4-6.3, 28-75 f2.8, 100-300mm f4.5-5.6, and many more. The AF works great on all of them... Whether Minolta/Sony/Sigma/Tokina they all AF fine. Even after my cataract surgery, my vision ain't great so AF lenses is the way I needed to go. This AF adapter only works with the latest Sony cameras such as the A7m4, A7RIV and the A6600 bodies. The AF doesn't work with my A7II or NEX5.
Lot of help
I got this adaptor instead of having to replace all my lenses. Focus is a little slower but good compromise
Second Time is the Charm!
I purchased this adapter right after it came out. Then I had an A7lll. It did not work at all on my stable of A mount lenses. I was quite upset with Sony, and felt they had screwed with their fan base, and returned it to B&H. But recently I bought an A7lV, and found out that my LA-EA4 was unusable with my new camera. So in researching, I found out that the LA-EA5 does work. I decided to purchase it again, because B&H is so reliable if I was unhappy. Well this sucker works miracles with my A7IV! My 12-24 Sigma, my 85mm Minolta, and all other A mount lenses now get eye focus on my camera. This is nothing short of amazing, and I'm happy I tried this a second time. It only works with selected Sony cameras. There should be an easier way to identify what bodies it works with. But it is amazing when it does!!!!
