Is the bottom padding sufficient?
For all intents and purposes, the bottom layer of foam/padding is sufficient for day-to-day use and extended use during travel as both carry-on and in some small flight situations as a gate-checked hard case (but as we all know check-in is still typically not a good idea).

The Pelican 1535AirWF Wheeled Carry-On Hard Case with Foam Insert is not wide enough for that lens. Specially with the hood on and if you plenty of foam to protect it during shipping. I would recommend a case that is 9 inches wide or more.
