Viltrox 56mm f/1.4 Overview

Featuring a svelte design, the Viltrox AF 56mm f/1.4 XF is a compact portrait-length prime lens designed for FUJIFILM X-mount mirrorless cameras. The short telephoto focal length pairs with a bright f/1.4 maximum aperture to help achieve notable control over depth of field and also benefits working in difficult lighting situations. The optical design incorporates extra-low dispersion and high refractive index elements, too, to reduce various aberrations and distortion for high clarity, color accuracy, and sharpness.

Complementing the optics, the lens's design also incorporates an STM stepping motor that affords fast, near-silent, and accurate autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override. An internal focusing design also contributes to quick performance. Additionally, the lens features an integrated micro-USB port for making future firmware updates to the lens. The lens's black finish matches similarly styled cameras.

Prime portrait-length lens is designed for APS-C-format FUJIFILM X-mount mirrorless cameras and provides an 85mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/1.4 maximum aperture suits working in low-light conditions and also affords greater control over depth of field.
One extra-low dispersion element reduces color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to achieve a high degree of clarity and color accuracy.
One high refractive index element helps to control spherical aberrations and reduce distortion in order to realize high sharpness and accurate rendering.
STM stepping motor enables quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override. Additionally, an internal focusing design maintains the overall lens length during use for improved handling and quicker response.
Integrated manual aperture ring for tactile exposure control; this ring also features an 'A' position for automated, camera-based aperture selection.
Nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.
Integrated micro-USB port can be used to update the lens's firmware.

This little gem takes sharp photos with great image quality. It is well built and works smoothly and fast. For the inexpensive price it it a great bargain.

It seems to be well built and have quality glass, fit and finish are excellent, I just wish it had aperture click stops or detents. considering the price it's a great buy.

Sometimes off-brand lenses can be hit or miss, but this one doesn't feel cheap for its price and it autofocuses as fast, if not faster then, Fujifilm's own 56mm equivalent.

I've become a fan of the Chinese, Japanese, and South Korean prime lenses for Fuji X. The Viltrox AF 56mm is especially nice for sharp low light level shooting. Heck, I use it for all occasions.

I felt the image coming out was sharp and good overall, but the AF was quite spazzy for me and unsmooth in video mode on the XH2s. May consider if the fuji is smoother in the longrun.

I as lured into purchasing Viltrox lenses for my Fuji X cameras because of the price but I cannot recommend them. Images lack crispness and the Viltrox glass delivers lifeless looking photos.

I've had TWO Fujifilm 56mm lenses and I got rid of each one because of the aperture ring's tendency to slip out of place. Does this lens have stronger detents for the aperture settings?

Viltrox AF 56mm f/1.4 XF Lens for FUJIFILM X aperture ring is more embedded in the lens design, therefore is less likely to get dust under the ring. Please keep in mind this is a cine lens and there is no D-click on the aperture ring.
