Compact wide-angle prime is designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 52.5mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/1.8 maximum aperture suits working in difficult lighting conditions and also offers increased control over depth of field for isolating subjects and working with selective focus.
Two extra-low dispersion elements reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce greater clarity and color rendering.
Two aspherical elements control spherical aberrations and distortions for improved sharpness and resolution.
An Ultra Multi-Coating has been applied to individual elements in order to reduce flare and ghosting for increased contrast and a neutral color balance.
The integrated linear STM autofocus motor works in conjunction with Sony cameras' focusing systems for quick, quiet, and precise AF control. Manual focus override is also available for refining your focus position.
Internal focusing design maintains the overall lens length and prevents the front of the lens from rotating during use.
Custom switch can used for lens-based control over select exposure or shooting functions, such as aperture selection, with additional settings coming via future firmware updates.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.
Weather-sealed construction helps protect against dust and moisture.
Included lens hood helps to block stray light from causing flare and ghosting.

Samyang AF 35mm f/1.8 Reviews

Overall better than Zeiss 35 1.4

I sold my Zeiss 35 1.4 for this one (and money to spare) and I do not regret it for a second. It was so heavy and large that it was sitting in shelf most of the time. This lens is small, practical and superlight! It's beautifully sharp wide open and gets much better and more contrasty from f2.5 and after. On f8 is scientifically sharp from corner to corner unlike the $1200 zeiss which never gets properly sharp on the edges. This lens is all what mirrorless cameras are about, having it always with you rather than owning it and not using it.

Terrific walk around lens

The standard portrait lens is 85mm, but I find with a little extra space you can be a little more creative. It is great out in the field for nature shots. It is very light to carry, sharp and a great value.

Great value for money

This lens is super light compared to my Tamron 17-28 and especially 24-105. Makes my A7iii much easier to carry around with good balance. AF is great and no complaints about sharpness and quality for the price.

Better than Samyang 35mm 1.4

Perfect 35mm for Sony. Having used both the Samyang 35mm 1.4 and 1.8, the 1.8 is objectively better and also happens to be much lighter and costs less. The 1.8 has great autofocus and image quality whereas the 1.4 has horrible autofocus and lesser image quality.

I love it

I have tried the G master and the sigma and not just because the price is 1000.00 less than a GMaster I found it to be a very nice lens so I use it on my A7SIII and it's a beautiful combo and the F/1.8 is fast enough.

Pretty good overall

I am super impressed with this lens and purchased it after a lot of research and watching countless youtube videos. I use it on a Sony a7iii and it's sharp, super lightweight, and easy to use. Bokeh is nice, the focus ring is smooth, and autofocus works pretty well.

Fantastic, Lightweight, Inexpensive, and Sharp!

This lens is great. I've been using it on my A7III and have been loving it. Super light, the bokeh is nice, it's sharp, and its a great way to get into the 35mm focal range. Really can't go wrong for the price.

Hello, how do I remove the lens hood when I first take the lens out of the box?
Asked by: Kristen
The lens hood is connected to the outside front of the lens via a bayonet mount. To remove the reverse-mounted lens hood, you may hold the lens from the back near the lens mount with one hand, then grasp the lens hood using your other hand and rotate the lens hood counter-clockwise. To attach the lens hood, you can align the white dot on the back of the lens hood with the white dot on the front of the lens, then rotate the lens hood clockwise until the lens hood clicks into place.

This or the Sigma 35mm 1.4 ? (for Video)
Asked by: Mohammed
Both this lens and the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art lens would be great for video, as they both offer quiet/fast autofocus along with a large aperture for a shallower depth of field. As far as which is better, it would really come down to the budget of the individual.

Yes it will work on a Sony A7III without going into crop mode because it is a lens built for a Full Frame Sensor.

Does this lens feature weather resistance? Some of Samyang's primes for Sony FE mount include this but some older ones do not.
Asked by: Stephen
According to Samyang optics website. This does have weather sealing. "This new Tiny Series lens, the AF 35mm F1.8 FE, features weather sealing for 4 spots to protect from light dust, rain and snow and provide the ability to capture stunning images in less than perfect conditions."

The lens station would allow you to update the firmware for this lens when updates are available. So yes this would help to keep the performance of the lens up to date.
