Compact wide-angle prime is designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 52.5mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/1.8 maximum aperture suits working in difficult lighting conditions and also offers increased control over depth of field for isolating subjects and working with selective focus.
Two extra-low dispersion elements reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce greater clarity and color rendering.
Two aspherical elements control spherical aberrations and distortions for improved sharpness and resolution.
An Ultra Multi-Coating has been applied to individual elements in order to reduce flare and ghosting for increased contrast and a neutral color balance.
The integrated linear STM autofocus motor works in conjunction with Sony cameras' focusing systems for quick, quiet, and precise AF control. Manual focus override is also available for refining your focus position.

This is one of the best lenses manufactured by Samyang. It's very sharp with good contrast at the center already wide open, edges sharpen nicely at f/2.8. It's light and small. Focusing is pretty quick and precise, no motor noise. The only drawback is high LoCA wide open, but most of the time it's not visible. Overall it's actually a better lens than Sony's own 35/1.8. I also had Sigma 35/2 and this Samyang is better at the center, though Sigma has less CA. Be sure you buy Samyang, not Rokinon. I had bad experience with the latter lenses being decentered.

Hello, how do I remove the lens hood when I first take the lens out of the box?
The lens hood is connected to the outside front of the lens via a bayonet mount. To remove the reverse-mounted lens hood, you may hold the lens from the back near the lens mount with one hand, then grasp the lens hood using your other hand and rotate the lens hood counter-clockwise. To attach the lens hood, you can align the white dot on the back of the lens hood with the white dot on the front of the lens, then rotate the lens hood clockwise until the lens hood clicks into place.

Both this lens and the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art lens would be great for video, as they both offer quiet/fast autofocus along with a large aperture for a shallower depth of field. As far as which is better, it would really come down to the budget of the individual.

Does this lens feature weather resistance? Some of Samyang's primes for Sony FE mount include this but some older ones do not.
According to Samyang optics website. This does have weather sealing.
