Compact wide-angle prime is designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 52.5mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/1.8 maximum aperture suits working in difficult lighting conditions and also offers increased control over depth of field for isolating subjects and working with selective focus.
Two extra-low dispersion elements reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce greater clarity and color rendering.
Two aspherical elements control spherical aberrations and distortions for improved sharpness and resolution.
An Ultra Multi-Coating has been applied to individual elements in order to reduce flare and ghosting for increased contrast and a neutral color balance.
The integrated linear STM autofocus motor works in conjunction with Sony cameras' focusing systems for quick, quiet, and precise AF control. Manual focus override is also available for refining your focus position.
Internal focusing design maintains the overall lens length and prevents the front of the lens from rotating during use.
Custom switch can used for lens-based control over select exposure or shooting functions, such as aperture selection, with additional settings coming via future firmware updates.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.
Weather-sealed construction helps protect against dust and moisture.
Included lens hood helps to block stray light from causing flare and ghosting.

Compact, light, big enough aperture and good image quality. This has been my everyday carry since over a year ago, for photography or videography.

See Dustin Abbott or SonyAlpha blog for the details. It is a winner and the lens that stays on my Sony A7iv most often.

VERY SHARP IMAGES ON SONY A7RII, COULD NOT ASK FOR SHARPER IMAGES. FOCUSES FAST , SILENTLY, AND ACCURATELY. LIGHT WEIGHT, SMALL SIZE AND INCLUDED CASE IS VERY NICE. ONLY NEGATIVE IS LENS HOOD THAT DOES NOT LOCK ON TOO WELL AND MOVES OUT OF POSITION TOO EASILY.

Great lens with a very reasonable price

Very affordable and amazing image quality on Sony a7r iii. I own the Sigma 35 1.4 E mount lens and the Samyang seems to focus faster and works better with eye af than the Sigma. The Sigma lens is sharper than the Samyang wide open at 1.4. The weight and size of the Samyang makes it better for travelling.

Sharp, Lightweight, Accurate AF

I was adapting a Canon 35mm F1.4L onto my Sony A7R IV, and this lens is sharper than that combination, plus way smaller and lighter. Love it. I've been shooting it mostly at F2 and found I needed to use a smaller focusing point for accurate focus. Eye Focus is accurate. I didn't bother buying a UV or Protective Filter for the front, I just figured I'd buy a whole new lens at this price point if something happens. I did however, buy a polarizing filter and ND filter. I also bought the Lens Station for updating firmware and doing fine adjustments, but this lens copy didn't need any.

Front focus issues

Bought this lens for how light and versatile it appeared. Sadly it had a lot of front focusing issues as well as AF issues. I had a difficult time reading faces. I wanted this lens to.work, but it wasn't for me.

Extremely Versatile Lens

Not a professional photographer by any means but I am very pleased with this lens. It's extremely versatile for the detail driven automotive photos I take, compact and at a great price point. Highly recommended if you're still using that kit lens!

Hello, how do I remove the lens hood when I first take the lens out of the box?
Asked by: Kristen
The lens hood is connected to the outside front of the lens via a bayonet mount. To remove the reverse-mounted lens hood, you may hold the lens from the back near the lens mount with one hand, then grasp the lens hood using your other hand and rotate the lens hood counter-clockwise. To attach the lens hood, you can align the white dot on the back of the lens hood with the white dot on the front of the lens, then rotate the lens hood clockwise until the lens hood clicks into place.

This or the Sigma 35mm 1.4 ? (for Video)
Asked by: Mohammed
Both this lens and the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art lens would be great for video, as they both offer quiet/fast autofocus along with a large aperture for a shallower depth of field. As far as which is better, it would really come down to the budget of the individual.

Does this lens feature weather resistance? Some of Samyang's primes for Sony FE mount include this but some older ones do not.
Asked by: Stephen
According to Samyang optics website. This does have weather sealing. "This new Tiny Series lens, the AF 35mm F1.8 FE, features weather sealing for 4 spots to protect from light dust, rain and snow and provide the ability to capture stunning images in less than perfect conditions."
