Seagate One Touch External HDD Reviews

Not for me.

I bought to use as external drive/storage of processed images exported from Lightroom. After buying a new FAST computer the read/write speed to transfer data is at a snail's pace. It continually fails the integrity check from Lenovo software. Sometimes while in use, it just quits accepting data. Have ordered a new 4TB SSD and will probably retire this one to the back of my storage cabinet. I would not recommend if you're going to use with photo processing operations. (Note: No where in the description of this product is the read/write speed. My bad for not checking.)

Great 'little' external drive

Needed something simple to backup files off of my laptop. Mostly photo files. I just plugged it in and copied the files over. Nothing fancy, I manually backup periodically. I know there are other options with more bells and whistles and automation but this fits my needs. I expect this will serve me for many years.

After trying several options, I found this drive. It's perfect for transferring video files while traveling... And more importantly dependable.

I bought this drive based on a Seagate FreeAgent portable small external drive I have had forever which works to this day. The description of this drive states, Textured metal finish... which is not accurate. It's a plastic enclosure. Too bad FreeAgent drives were built like a tank with a nice sturdy aluminum enclosure. More than anything I bought this case on past experience as I have not suffered from any data loss from a Seagate external drive.

I have a lot of Seagate drives and they are as advertised- this one is not. After three hours of support chats with BH and Seagate I can't get this drive to format above 2.2 TB. I've carefully followed the directions from each tech and tried it on my newer iMac and one of my PCs. My other drives were plug and play and perform flawlessly. It shouldn't have been so difficult with this 4TB unit. Unfortunately I bought this a while back but only recently needed to fire it up- too late to return it but I would if I could.

No USB3 on my Desktop

Ordered this to speed up backups but my USB3 ports do not recognize it. Keeps starting and stopping. My other Western Digital drives that are 2 TB work fine on USB3 mode. Now making a nice door stop. Don't buy it.

It was a little finicky to set up but works fine now

I bought this so that I could carry large sets of video files from one PC to another. I wanted to use the One Touch so that I didn't have to mess with a hard drive that needed a power supply. When I tried to connect it to the USB port on the front of one PC, the computer never could see the drive, even though the drive light was on. However, I have two Seagate 8TB hard drives connected to the back of that PC, and I was able to unplug one and use its USB cord to connect the One Touch with no issue. The other PC is older, uses Windows 7 and has a USB 3 add-in card, and the One Touch connected up to that with no problem. So in the end, it all works fine and I'm happy with my purchase.
