SanDisk Extreme V2 External SSD Reviews

Second 2TB I own, , no problems

I just put 600 gig of photos on this drive and it never got more than slightly warn. Perhaps because it sits on top of a metal PC case which acted as a heat shield. Used it all morning processing photos in Photoshop without any blips or pauses. A remarkable drive. My previous drive of this SSD type - 2TB and 1000 meg speed according to Sandisk which I don't get due to age of my PC which wrote everything at 85 meg which is plenty fast for my needs. Never had a failure with Sandisk, SDHC, SDHX, memory sticks or drives. Perhaps this is because my computer is used only for photography and internet and nothing gets confusing with too many programs. All photo are on external drives with only pictures on them. I'm using WIN 11.

I bought this to be a Time Machine external drive for my iMac. Set it up in 5min and the back-ups have been fast and seamless. And a tiny form factor compared to my old external HD. Very happy.

The BMPCC Companion

I purchased this SSD to record directly from my 4K BMPCC and hopefully not drop any frames. I set my camera at the highest possible memory eating setting and I was blown away. Not one frame dropped. I highly recommend this drive for any need that requires true high speed writing.

Incompatible with MacBook M1 processor

I should have read other reviews more closely. Even after installing Apple's Rosetta 2 software, the device driver installation software would not boot on my MacBook. I like how low compact and lightweight the SSD feels so it's a shame that I cannot run the software necessary for formatting the device for use with my MacBook.

Excellent, it works very well and is very practical and takes up almost no space. I recommend it, it is also a good brand that supports the product. I received it before the delivery date

Warning - not reliable

These drives are simply not reliable. Personally, I have had two fail on me resulting in thousands of dollars in data recovery. I cannot encourage you enough to look to other brands for your storage needs.

Can never have enough SSD's kicking around

I love these drives. Fast enough to edit from while on the road, but my favorite thing is how compact and rugged they are.

1) Would this be compatible with taking memory from a "computer for older persons" that runs on Linux? 2) If so, could that data be transferred to a MacBook Air 2019 with Catalina so that the documents might be printed on a good printer?
Asked by: Anne
For Linux and Mac cross compatibility, you would simply need to format the drive into the ExFAT File System on either machine.

Is this drive formatted out of the box for a Windows PC? If I use it with a PC to backup photos while traveling, can I then plug it into my Mac at home to copy the photos to my Mac-based home system? Thanks!
Asked by: troy
No, this drive is not pre-formatted. If you would like to use the drive with both Windows and Mac computers then the best format to choose is exFAT, which will be able to work with both operating systems.

Can anyone weigh in on sustained read/write for applications like video editing?
Asked by: jacob
I've done a fair amount of Final Cut Pro X with this drive. No complaints here. Without moving parts, any SSD drive should perform much better than a standard drive. I have one for photos and one for video editing. When the video one fills up, I dump older projects onto an 8TB standard drive.
