I am using a MacBook Pro 2019 running on macOS Monterey, and I am trying to format the SSD as ExFat. It is not working and taking forever to erase, and it has been showing the erasing screen for over an hour. Is there something I am doing wrong?

Be sure in Disk Utility to select the correct volume. In some versions this seems straightforward, however the volumes have a drop down feature that lets you configure the volume.

For Linux and Mac cross compatibility, you would simply need to format the drive into the ExFAT File System on either machine.
