I was looking for a drive like this but I am reading just too many drive crashes from the reviews. I think I will pass on purchasing this drive.

Great for travelling

A bit bigger in size and heavier than the 4TB extreme version. Speed tested and found the specs to be as advertised and twice as fast as the extreme version. To gain the speeds you will need to use the cables provided. They're quite short but long enough so as not to be cumbersome. Compared to travelling with even the best and slimmest HDD's, it's a no contest. These SSD's will make you never want to lug around those bigger, slower & heavier HDD's. At the heavily discounted price of May 2023, highly recommended.

Misunderstood genius device

I am pleased to have the opportunity to review this marvelous external SSD drive. It's not much larger than a credit card in height and width. I'd estimate its about 1/8 thick. And the price--$330--also remarkable. I returned the first one I received because it didn't work. My Mac Pro didn't recognize it and after initially recognizing it, my MacBook Air also wouldn't recognize it. Same thing happened this (the second) time. As there really isn't a comparable device, especially at the generous B&H price, I called SanDisk and got to speak to a technical support person right away. Imagine that. The tech advised me to format the disk. I did, wiping out the entirely unnecessary encryption software the device ships with and changing the existing formatting for both Windows and Mac to Mac only. Now the device works great on both my MacPro and my MacBook Air.

I needed for my M1 Ipad Pro to do some editing and color grading on Resolve and it's doing great job. I also like how small it is to carry around with the IPad.

I brought the Extreme PRO in Hong Kong. Which found the product defect that no connect stable. The speed for this defect product which meet 1200-1500MB/s. However, it is not connect stableize. I disconnect and sometime not able to connect. After working for all recommend by support and the product still the same. Then, WD support allow to do the DMR. But the send back were charge as no support certre in HK area even WD were not able to make the goods exchange from their centre. After the goods exchanged. The new one which the speed under 700MB/s. I check with support that they don't have any way to test their product can check the speed that they claim can be 2000MB/s. I felt disappoint on this product.

does the pro run cooler, and will the pro run faster than the extreme on the 2017 iMac Pro with only 10gb port?
Asked by: Ronald
The Sandisk Exteme PRO SSD is designed to run at faster sustained speeds and be able to handle many more read/writes, not necessarily cooler. You will get the full speed of this drive when you connect it to your Thunderbolt 3 port on your 2017 iMac Pro.
