So Fast With M1 Max Chip

Downloading 45 mega pixel images with new MacBook Pro and M1 Max chip is so amazingly fast. Processing images with LRC, photoshop and Topaz plug in is quick and painless. I am so impressed that I now have two. Important: When buying... your computer USB C ports have to be faster than the transfer rate of the Pro SSD to get the results I'm getting. If not, you should buy a slower SSD and save some money.

Flawless - Perfect compliment to the USRA series 4.6k/12K

This drive surprised me for sure, I am actually able to record BlackMagic RAW in 12k on this, and 8k120FPS. Even bigger surprise is that it does not heat up nearly as bad as the T5 series does, even with these much higher top speeds. I built an external NVME 980PRO to external USBC case, and the speeds are on par with each other. Don't hesitate, it works perfectly !!! Quick tip, TEST your cables with a speedtest - I tried out a few different high speed USBC cables, and found a couple that gave me an additional 5-8 percent higher read/write speeds. Don't really need it, but if your trying to squeeze all the speed you can, worth a check.

~900MB/s max on any Mac

Disappointing, but this tops out at around 900MB/s on my macs (both M1 based). The problem is that this drive needs a USB 3.2 2x2 capable host, and the macs don't support that. Even with a TB4 cable it will only give you 900MB/s. It's my understanding that this is a hardware limitation, but I'm not 100% certain on that. Still, 900MB/s is pretty dang good...but there is a slightly cheaper (non 'pro') version that will give you basically the same speed. May return this and wait for a proper usb 4 version.

Game changer

This drive saved me when working with larger, heavier files. I recently started shooting in PRORES 422 10Bit, and this requires a lot more speed for editing. I ran into some hiccups with other drives I had, and this one took off and has worked flawlessly. I recommend getting the 4TB, because why not? I was able to store a few projects at a time on this. I really don't see any flaws as of yet and hopefully won't run into any down the road. It's well worth the money.

does the pro run cooler, and will the pro run faster than the extreme on the 2017 iMac Pro with only 10gb port?
Asked by: Ronald
The Sandisk Exteme PRO SSD is designed to run at faster sustained speeds and be able to handle many more read/writes, not necessarily cooler. You will get the full speed of this drive when you connect it to your Thunderbolt 3 port on your 2017 iMac Pro.

Yes, Thunderbolt3 is backwards compatible with USB-C speeds and will be able to connect in the TB3 port. You should get USB 3.2 transfer speeds.

Anyone actually getting 2000MB/s? I'm using this with a Thunderbolt 4 cable directly into my M1 max Thunderbolt port and I get 950MB/s...
Asked by: dan
Reuben's answer is correct, but not relevant. You need a USB 3.2 2x2 port togetherness the 2000 MB/s speed. Macs (and most PCs) don't support this standard. So this drive won't be any faster than a non-pro version
