WD External SSD Reviews

Ok but not what I expected

In june 2023 WD cut the ties with Apple via the previous included software connection to I-Cloud, now making it more difficult to move photos out of the cloud. However any other usage of the SSD is ok.

Super fast and super small and so great to travel with for transferring files.

Bricked within a month

Be skeptical of buying this drive. It bricked out within a month of using it. Looking at other reviews, it seems like many have had the same issue. WD will replace the drive (with the same model that might also brick) but will not pay for data recovery, and one of their approved service providers quoted $1,000. Further, WD customer service is laughably bad. Annoying and overly-difficult at every turn.

Impressive the size and the capacity of this WD SSD I already have 2 WD My Passaports 1 TB HDs for years, so I know the quality

Smaller Than My Old WD Passports

I use this for transferring RAW photo files from my Nikon cameras. Given that I shoot lots of frames in RAW, it's amazing how quickly a couple of days of RAW file shooting can fill one of these 2TB WD Passports. I will probably buy a couple more in the near future. They are smaller than the WD Passports I bought a couple of years ago, but they work great.

Made the same mistake twice

In the last 17 years of shooting, this is the only new drive that I have had fail on me TWICE! Luckily I had a few back ups, but never again will I ever buy or suggest WD SSDs!

Not as expected

Bought this 1TB drive to backup and organize photos stored in i-Cloud but WD have terminated their Apple backup solution in June 2023. Now I have to copy photos manually to the Passport SSD which is very time consuming and not what I expected.
