Sony VPL715 Overview

Enjoy DCI 4K images in vibrant color with the black Sony VPL-VW715ES 1800-Lumen DCI 4K SXRD Projector. Its three SXRD chips combine with HDR compatibility to deliver enhanced color accuracy, while its 1800 lumens of color and white brightness help ensure that your images are clear in most home theater settings.

The VPL-VW715ES features a 1.38 to 2.83:1 throw ratio, 2.06x optical zoom, and horizontal and vertical lens shift to provide installation flexibility. It has two HDMI inputs for connecting your digital HD devices, such as your HD cable/satellite box or Blu-ray player. As an added convenience, the projector includes a remote control.

Native 4K SXRD Panel
The SXRD (Silicon X-tal Reflective Display) panel delivers native DCI 4K resolution for lifelike images. It is also designed to provide rich, inky blacks; clear cinematic motion and image smoothness; and vibrant colors with more tones and textures.
X1 for Projector
X1 for projector takes Sony's BRAVIA TV processing technology and optimizes it for projection, combining technologies for high-precision frame analysis, enabling features like the Dynamic HDR Enhancer and Super Resolution.
4K Aspherical Lens
The lens features a large-diameter aspherical element to help provide corner-to-corner sharpness.
1800 Lumens of Brightness
The lamp's 1800-lumen brightness output helps provided vibrant images on screens up to 300" with up to 6000 hours of viewing time (in low mode).
350,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio
The high dynamic contrast ratio helps provide fine detail and realism for every scene. The video processing is combined with lens iris control to produce deep black levels and vibrant color.
Dynamic HDR Enhancer
This technology, powered by the X1 for projector processor, helps enhance contrast by processing HDR content scene by scene. It further enhances the contrast in combination with iris light output control, making bright scenes brighter and dark scenes darker.
4K Motionflow
The video processor enables Motionflow for smooth and clear motion, even when viewing 4K content. It adds frames to fast-moving content to reduce blur while maintaining brightness. Cinema purists can choose True Theater mode to retain the original 24 fps.
Digital Focus Optimizer
Optimum focus is achieved both optically and digitally with the Digital Focus Optimizer. By analyzing every pixel of the images and detecting possible optical degradation in advance, this technology performs image quality correction to help enhance the focus, even in the corners.
Reality Creation for 4K Content
Reality Creation technology analyzes images at the pixel level, then uses pattern-matching algorithms to enhance details without increasing digital picture noise. It also upscales Full HD Blu-ray and DVD movies to near-4K quality.
Motorized Zoom Lens and Wide Lens Shift
Installation is simplified with a 2.06x motorized zoom lens and 85% vertical & 31% horizontal lens shift using lossless optical adjustments to help you get the right angle to view your content.
Lifelike Images with HDR Compatibility
HDR video offers an expanded brightness range for more realistic, high-contrast images and vibrant color. The VPL-VW715ES is compatible with the HDR10 and HLG HDR formats to help produce images that are faithful to the creators' intent.
Picture Position Memory
Store focus, zoom, and lens shift settings for up to five screen formats for easy recall. Picture Position Memories store key settings so you can quickly watch movies in the pre-set format. Match aspect ratios, including 16:9 and Cinemascope, and store these settings in the projector.

I'm glad I invested one. It's worth it. Color is so much better than 325ES.

Best HDR in a projector I've seen so far

I've owned this projector for a couple of weeks now and I have to say I'm super happy with it. My last projector was an early HDR model but it was terrible dim in darker scenes and washed out in brighter ones. Not so with this projector. Highlights here are really bright and detailed while blacks are nice and velvety. Dimmer scenes play out much better than in my prior projector and the contrast enhancer really helps bring some pop into darker scenes. The color saturation is a thing of beauty. Greens have never looked denser or more natural and yellows have a wonderful organic POP. Reds and blues are deep and convincing. And the resolution is gorgeous. Fine details really stand out more than I expected them to. I'm going to get the projector professionally calibrated soon and I'm guessing it'll make an awesome out of the box picture even better. So happy I got this projector. It's really worth every penny if you're looking for the best possible image.

The dream theater

I have had this projector for a few months and it is absolutely incredible. If you are even considering this projector, get it! The lens memory is fast and works well for shifting between different content. Image quality will just make your jaw drop. I have mine shinning on a 1.4 gain screen and it can be watched during the day with open windows and is still bright enough to see even the darker scense. Sony knocked it out of the park with projector. Also I have it mounted to the ceiling in the room and it runs very quite so even during those spooky scenes the sound doesn't take you away from the immersion.

Gorgeous picture

I've owned this projector for a little over a month now and I couldn't be happier with it. My old projector had a terrible time handling hdr sources. The image always appeared too dark. Not this baby. Hdr looks vibrant and has real pop. And the density of color is amazing. Never had a projector reproduce greens and reds so beautifully. And the contrast enhancer is a godsend on movies that might have been mastered a little too dark. One button press and the image comes to life. So happy with this projector.
