Hollyland Mars 400 Pro Reviews

Worked well for the most part

I have used these in the field for about a year now and haven't had any major issues. No dropped or degraded image. Pretty much plug and play for the most part. My image quality standards aren't extremely high though for a product at this price point. It does what it needs to do if you're trying for a quick client monitor or AC pulling focus. Build quality is fairly good with the exception of the cold shoe. The one on the transmitter is extremely loose after a year and the one of the receiver completely snapped off the unit. There's no way to repair or maintain the cold shoe once it becomes loose/breaks off due to the design.

Fantastic!

This little wireless system is awesome! I bought it to use with a livestream gig that a previous time we had to run a really long cable to a camera across the event hall (approx. 60-70ft) and tape it down. But now, we were able to just place the camera across the room and turn on both devices and bam, video and audio feed were perfect. It also allowed us to walk around with that camera in the event hall and it even picked up through the wall to the lobby. We're definitely going to get more of these! I put 4 stars because it said it would convert an hdmi signal on one end to sdi on the other but it didn't work. So on the transmitter we had to convert back to sdi in order to use our livestream switcher. But we're going to see if we can get that to work. However I highly recommend this unit!

Does not Pass 1920x1080 59.94 like specs say

Does not Pass 1920x1080 59.94 like the specs say. Beware if you are going to use this for anything specific, this might not be the product for you. It wants to scale your video feed.

The range is not as advertised

Hollyland's advertised transmission distance for this model is 400 feet, and that's an overstatement. I tried to use it in distances greater than 100 feet and the signal does not reach the receiver. In order to use it, I had to place it in high places. It has not worked for me on the Atem Mini Pro. The on / off button was depressed the same day I took it out of the box.

Didn't work

I bought the Hollyland 400S Pro last month. I bought an extra power supply in order to power the units. I pressed and released the on/off button and nothing. No display. I then pressed and held the button until there was a display on the screen. Once I released the button the unit turned off. I could hear the fan turn on and operate while I held the on/off button. Tried both transmit and receiver units. Same results. The unit was returned for a replacement. Today, I received a second Hollyland 400S Pro and had the same experience. Now I'm on my way to return the second unit for a full refund. I will say this about the box if you buy and have the same experience as me, look at the cover of the box and see if you see a yellow circle tag. I would be curious to know if Hollyland has a bad batch of equipment and their QC lacked.

Good range

I haven't used this on a job yet but did a test in my apt building. While the TX was on the 4th floor, the RX could pick up signal all the way from the ground floor. While using the Acssoon CineEye 2, I was only able to get a clear signal from the 3rd floor so this is 3 times as powerful. This is about twice as expensive as the CineEye 2 but I would trust this more for professional work, granted it has a dedicated RX. I paired this with a Lilliput 4K 12.5 monitor and it works very well with it. You can use one of those thick Nintendo Switch cases - its quite a good fit. See image below

Great range!

I did a test in my apartment and it does at least 3x the range of the Acssoon Cineeye 2. I hope to use this on a job and report back the experience

Great option but not perfect

Pro: -great price -great packaging, unit build -video pairing is easy to setup and works -added functions like the app support, USB-C support, etc -great for video monitoring, surprisingly good range -can convert SDI video to HDMI video Cons: -not ideal for focus pulling, especially action. Slight delay -only works with two receivers which is a killer -unit doesn't transmit proper timecode (or any timecode) in my experience -unit can't send trigger record function which is also a killer I gave it four stars because ultimately the price is so much lower than the main competitor (terradeck), and the unit build and functionality makes that a great price. However I had to dock it a point for the lack of trigger record and proper timecode as that is a major pain to work around.

Would this work with a HDMI splitter so that I could use a Atomos ninja v?
Asked by: Damion
I imagine you're trying to split the HDMI so it could go into another output source? I would have Mars 400S transmit straight to Ninja V and then Ninja has an HDMI out that can go in another source to create that chain. Hope this helps.

Can one receiver go to two difference devices? The plan would be the camera feed from one transmitter to one receiver, and then from that receiver to two different ATEM Mini Pro switches.
Asked by: Daniel
The transmitter will be able to send the signal to a 2nd receiver. BH #HOM400SPRORX is the part number for a 2nd receiver. However you cannot go from 2 Receivers to 1 Transmitter. https://bhpho.to/2MOPrSG
