AMD 5900X Reviews
Upgraded from Ryzen 7 2700x
Great shipping time, package came fast. Great price for this CPU. I needed an upgrade because of the advancements to design programs like from Unreal Engine 4 to version 5 and also some other programs that I use as well. It does run hotter than the 2700x but it also handles more and a lot quicker too. It also doesn't get as hot as the 2700x during heavy scenes as well. So, its just hotter during normal workloads but not as hot during heavy workloads. I haven't experimented on this cpu with baking hair cards in blender yet but with the jump from the 2700x I am sure that it will shorten my times based on how fast it handles my other programs. I use the Noctua NH-D15S to cool the CPU. I grabbed an extra 140mm fan for the cooling tower and I get at least an extra 10C degrees cooler than just the single fan. I think the highest temp I hit in Unreal Engine 5 is about 68C. This is the same temp I hit with just a room that is AAA quality and also with a city loaded up as well. Temps stay relatively the same within a few degrees C between these scene size comparisons. Still haven't pushed my fans to 100 percent yet to keep it cool. About 70 percent is the max I have my fans pushed during heavy scenes. With the 2700x I was having to push my fans 100 percent and I was hitting 80C. I knew it was time for an upgrade because of that and this CPU(5900x) was just the right purchase.
Amazing performance
Great performance cpu. B and H has the fastest shipping and delivery!
Still decent CPU for old PC upgrade in 2023
Get it on sale in the winter holiday. With this price, just a drop in on exsiting AM4 MB to replace Ryzen 3600, it's a big upgrade with ease. Working well as expected. BH delivery service is good and fast.
Amazing CPU & amazing service!
I ordered this on a Friday, and it was scheduled to arrive on the following Tuesday, but it instead arrived on Monday - I was incredibly happy with this. I did a lot of research before buying this CPU, and it has proven to be exactly what the reviews (GamersNexus) had demonstrated it would be. Incredible for gaming, awesome for productivity, cost effective and low on the temperature range too! I buy and rip & compress Blu Ray movies - this cut the compression time in half versus the 5600x CPU that I had previously. The 5600x would average 14fps, whereas the 5900x averages 28fps. This is somewhat to be expected as the 5900x is 2 5600x CPUs on 1 package, but it is still awesome. CPU usage while gaming went from an overall usage (Guild Wars 2) of ~30% to ~40% down to around 15%. It should be pretty obvious, but I am incredibly happy with this CPU and would've purchased it instead of my 5600x if I had paid attention to more fact based reviews previously. With how quickly this CPU shipped & arrived, I would gladly buy again from B&H.
Best electronics retailer on the East Coast, maybe in USA
B&H is the best electronics and photo/video retailer on the East Coast, and definitely one of the best in the entire United States. I live in NJ, and I literally received this through free expedited shipping on the very next day, before 10:30 AM. I have never in my entire life received an item this fast from any retailer in the USA. The box didn't have a single mark on it because it was meticulously packed for safety. Ultra-fast CPU, fit perfectly into my almost 3 year old ASROCK - B450m pro4. Just make sure you update the BIOS through a flash drive prior to installation. Didn't even need to get new RAM, my Corsair Vengeance 3200 works perfectly. I paired this with a Gigabyte 4090 and my previous Noctua D-15. Max temp under load was 70 celcius and all the CPU bottlenecks I had with my previous processor, a Ryzen 5 3600 are all gone. My boot time is almost instant, like 1-2 seconds because of my NVME SSD and this CPU. Done upgrading for at least 4-5 years. I am perfectly happy with my system.
Great balance bet. gaming and professional performance
Although a bit older since AMD has already announced AM5 socket and the 7000 series processors which are even better. This is still a decent buy on sale for people on a budget looking for a well performing CPU that doesn't consume lots of power like its Intel counterparts.
Wow!
Upgraded from a Ryzen 5 2600 to the Ryzen 9 5900X. 32 Gb RAM now running at rated speed (3600 MHz) by enabling XMP. To say this is significantly faster is a bit of an understatement. I have not completed benchmark, but this processor is going to handle my photo and video processing requirements for a LONG time.
Great performance value
Gaming performance is great, this has no trouble keeping a 6900xt fed, but I really appreciate having all the extra compute available from a 12 core. This has been a solid solution to any workload I throw at it. Very versatile. I'd recommend it to anyone shopping at this price point.
