24.1MP APS-C CMOS Sensor and DIGIC 8 Image Processor
Both a 24.1MP APS-C CMOS sensor and DIGIC 8 image processor are used to deliver high sensitivity and fast camera performance to suit both stills and video applications. A flexible ISO 100-25600 range, with an expandable ISO 51200 setting, suits working in a variety of lighting conditions, and the processing capabilities minimize noise and afford Auto Lighting Optimizer for notable clarity in various shooting situations. UHD 4K video recording is also supported at 23.98 fps, along with Full HD 1080p60 and HD 720p120 settings for slow motion recording. Vertical video recording is supported, too, as well as clean HDMI output for high-resolution, high frame-rate streaming. Additionally, the processor affords a 10 fps continuous shooting rate, fast camera startup time, and short interval times between each frame for a more intuitive and efficient shooting process.
Enhanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF
Dual Pixel CMOS AF offers smooth and fast focusing performance in a similar manner to how a camcorder acquires focus. This system integrates two separate photodiodes within each pixel to provide a broad and dense network of phase-detection gathering elements across a majority of the image sensor to reduce focus hunting for faster, more direct control of focus placement. When working with still imagery, this focusing system works to acquire focus quickly and accurately, making it ideally suited to shooting and tracking moving subjects so that critical focus is attained with each shot. Eye Detection AF can also be used for portraiture and helps to prioritize focus on a subject's eye for ensured sharpness.

When shooting video, a Movie Servo AF mode offers smooth and natural focusing when changing from different subjects or different distances within the scene, as well as the ability to specify tracking sensitivity, AF speed, and Face Tracking priority. Benefited by the Touch AF system, rack focus is possible simply by touching elements within the scene on the touchscreen in order to change focus in an intuitive manner. Subject tracking in movies is also heightened due to the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system's ability to recognize subjects and maintain focus when working within changing or cluttered scenery. Additionally, Eye Detection AF can also be used with Movie Servo AF, and both Eye and Face Detection can be used with Servo AF modes, to help keep your subjects in focus as the center of attention.
Combination IS
Combination IS uses the built-in 5-axis digital image stabilization in conjunction with lens-based image stabilization systems to effectively minimize the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting. This benefits recording while walking or moving and can also be used in conjunction with lenses featuring optical IS for more effective overall stabilization.
Body Design and Wireless Connectivity
  • Large 3.0" touchscreen LCD provides an intuitive method for controlling focusing points, navigating menus, and reviewing imagery. This screen also features a vari-angle to better enable working from high and low angles.
  • Integrated 2.36m-dot OLED electronic viewfinder permits bright, clear eye-level monitoring and also permits working with Touch and Drag AF for manually moving the AF area while shooting with the EVF for more intuitive control.
  • Built-in Wi-Fi with NFC allows for easy wireless sharing of both photos and movies to a linked mobile device.
  • Bluetooth permits linking a smartphone or tablet for quick, automatic image sharing between devices as well as remote control capabilities.
  • Wi-Fi also enables livestreaming your content straight from the camera and, when used with EOS Webcam Utility software, the EOS M50 Mark II can function an easy webcam alternative.
  • Built-in pop-up flash provides additional illumination for working in low-light conditions. A hot shoe is also available for working with an optional external flash for greater control.
EOS Webcam Utility
Extending the capabilities of the camera, Canon's EOS Webcam Utility software lets you turn your camera into a versatile webcam by just connecting it to a computer via USB. Compatible with a variety of streaming apps, including ZOOM, YouTube Live, Microsoft Teams, and more, this software also maintains the ability to record internally while livestreaming.
Canon EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM Lens (Graphite)

A standard zoom covering wide-angle to short telephoto perspectives, the graphite EF-M 15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM Lens from Canon offers a 24-72mm equivalent focal length range when used with APS-C-format EOS M-series mirrorless cameras. The optical design incorporates three aspherical elements, one of which is glass-molded and the other two are precision molded, in order to control chromatic aberrations and distortions throughout the zoom range. The lens placement has also been optimized, and coatings have been applied, to reduce flare and ghosting for increased contrast and clarity when photographing in difficult lighting conditions.

Benefitting handheld shooting with slower shutter speeds, an Optical Image Stabilizer has been incorporated into the lens design to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to 3.5 stops. A lead-screw-type STM stepping motor is also featured, which produces fast, smooth and near-silent autofocus performance to support both stills and video applications. For increased control, full-time manual focus operation is also available for making fine-tuned focus adjustments. Additionally, pairing well with the compact form factor of the EOS M-series of cameras, this lens also features a retracting design to shorten its overall length to just 1.75" long during travel and storage.

Standard wide-to-short tele zoom lens for EF-M mount APS-C format mirrorless cameras provides a 24-72mm equivalent focal length range.
One glass-molded (GMo) aspherical element and two precision-molded (PMo) aspherical elements are featured in the optical design, and help to reduce chromatic aberrations and distortions for greater sharpness and clarity.
Optimized lens placement and coatings help to control lens flare and ghosting for increased contrast and color neutrality.
Optical Image Stabilizer technology compensates for up to 3.5 stops of camera shake to better enable taking sharp handheld photos in difficult lighting conditions.
Lead-screw-type STM stepping motor offers fast, quiet, smooth, and accurate autofocus performance that is ideal for video recording as well as still shooting.
Full-time manual focus mode (AF+MF) lets you instantly switch to manual focus control in AF mode for making fine-tuned adjustments.

Still figuring it out but happy with purchase! Rather new with the mirrorless cameras, so I started with this one.

Canon EOS M50 Mark II Compact and Easy

By Eric
Rated 5 out of 5
Date: 2023-02-15

I purchased the Canon M50 Mark II 2 years ago solely for my YouTube channel. This is my first mirrorless camera and so far it has been a useful and efficient tool to taking high quality videos and giving out vibrant and nice contrast photos. I love its compact size (lightweight and comfortable grip) and easy to use features. The Mark II has subtle modifications compared to its predecessor, the Canon M50. These modest upgrades were also the reason why I purchase it over the M50. The autofocus refinements (eye tracking AF for both stills and videos and face detection) are actually substantial. I would say it's fast and accurate. The ability to shoot video vertically is also a plus especially for serious vloggers. It's capability to live stream to YouTube directly from the camera is also a promising feature which I use a couple of times. While this camera has an attractive price point with pleasing specifications, few downsides for me would be the 1.5x crop on 4k footage which I rarely use and the 30-40 minutes battery life with continuous video use.

Maybe BEST camera yet

Have purchased and owned many mid-level cameras from B&H over the years (35). This Canon and lens, along with a couple other lens purchased with this are producing some really great pictures. Have spend more dollars in the past on camera & lens systems, but in all anhosty, this system is just plain cool!

Love the lighter weight

I purchased the mirrorless EOS M50 Mark II camera for the lighter weight and ease of traveling. I love to take pictures but my EOS 60D has become too heavy for me at my age now. This camera seems to be just what I needed. Have not used extensively yet, but functions are very easy to use.

I bought this because a vlogger on YouTube recommended it. I do not recommend. I don't have Wifi so I tried to connect it via USB cable. I downloaded the proper software and called customer support customer couldn't help. didn't't connect to my apple laptop. I spent my savings on this as my first camera. im really disappointed

Curious how Canon decides what controls to provide

By Douglas
Rated 5 out of 5
Date: 2023-05-18

I also own the M3 and it's just curious how Canon decides to place some controls on external dials on the different models. Something I use a lot and really appreciate about the M3 is the exposure compensation dial. Needless to say, the M50 Mark II has it on a display item. Oh well, small price to pay for having the articulated back display which is so much more useful than the tilting display on the M3. Also, it would have been nice if the M50 had a built in flash, but it is also nice that it has a built in viewfinder. I only use the back display as a viewfinder when these old bones won't bend enough to enable me to look through the viewfinder. Bottom line, is the M50 Mark II is a nice little camera that I use for situations when I don't want to risk my regular equipment. If I lose the M50, I can easily afford to replace it. If I lose my R6, well, that's more of a loss.
