Big Fan of SLR Magic Cinema Lenses
Huge fan of these SLR Magic Microprimes. I now have a full set: 12mm T/2.8, 17mm T/1.5, 21mm fT/1.6, 25mm T/1.5, 35mm T/1.5, 50mm T/1.5. They're the best bang for your buck cinema primes out there, in my opinion. I use them with a BMPCC4k and GH5 and I love them. The only thing I wish they had was a bit more throw with the longer distances. There's very little travel from infinity to six feet, for example. If your focus or aperture ring seems stiff at first, don't worry - it'll loosen up after some use. I'm now starting a collection of the SLR Magic APO lenses for PL mount.
Perfect wide for the BMPCC 4K
Very nice lens! It’s the perfect compliment to the BMPCC 4K. In the past I had used the Veydra 16mm on my Pocket 4K and really loved it. So, I figured that the similar focal length and faster aperture would be even better. I was right. And of course, the build quality is the solid and heavy that you’d expect of a great cinema lens. The one potential downside of the lens is that it’s a bit soft wide open, but that’s not an issue for me. I’m glad I bought it.
Love it!
This lens pairs perfectly with our other SLR Magic 35mm T 1.5 for a BMPCC4K. The two lenses work perfectly for our needs. I like the quality and look the 17mm produces for short film/run and gun. It's compact so it is easy to balance on a gimbal. The only question is which lens to get next... The SLR Magic 12mm or 50mm lens?
Why spend more??
The DOF is beautiful on this lens when you can leave the aperture wide open. I've done some test footage but can't wait to apply this bad boy to my next projects!
