Profoto OCF Adapter Reviews

Total disappointment, total garbage.

I've counted on profoto for years. I've trusted them to give me quality and reliability. That's why I'm accustomed to paying twice as much (or more) for their products. This time, Profoto let us all down. This product is cheaply made, clunky, cumbersome, and in my case it broke almost immediately. It's overpriced (I paid $300- but even at $150 it is overpriced). The entire line of light modifiers for the A1,A1x series is a pathetic letdown. Do yourself a favor. Order a couple of bulletproof manfrotto umbrella holders, some cold shoe adapters and some shoot through umbrellas. Save yourself $1000's of dollars and get stuff that will last though natural disasters. This product is totally useless.

Makes the A1 more versatile

I was irritated that the A1's circular head would not fit into other flash adapter systems - this is Profoto's solution - expensive but solidly built and straight forward in design - length of the attachment ring is not too deep but will hold small to mid weight OCF attachments

The hotshoe is very fragile

I have with the adapter for about 6 months I was very happy with it, until I realized the Hotshoe where the flash comes in is made of plastic and it began to open on both sides, I wrote to Profoto and they did not want to be responsible.

the cold shoe to mount my A1 flash is not unusable as both slides are broken and the flash falls off with every movement of a stand.

Great with OCF beauty dish

It works great with the OCF Beauty dish. I do wish this would also accommodate larger softboxes that are not OCF ones. I tried that before and it broke. this one feels stronger, but I am afraid to try it.

Pricey but totally useful product

This beautifully designed product allows A1 series speedlights to connect directly to OCF light modifiers. What's great about the device is that it tilts and accommodates an umbrella as well. I had been using the Westcott Apollo umbrella/softbox method before, but it required an additional tilting umbrella adapter, and then the A1 sits inside the light box and is very difficult to access while shooting. With Profoto's Adapter, the speedlight remains outside the softbox so the controls are 100% accessible for quick adjustments while shooting.

Waited for product like this for long time. For location its awesome. I hook up Wescott beauty dish box with Profoto speedring and hooks up in seconds Michael De. Martino.

Profoto Quality

So in the future I can use my Profoto light shapers without any additional adapters. The bracket is made of metal and feels solid and should give Profoto Like a long service life. As for the price... Profoto no more questions, but since it was available as a package: speedring, softbox and grid, the price is more than okay

No, it's meant for a speed light, you attach it using the speed light's foot near the bottom There'd be no way to mount that strobe.
