The Staff's (Mark) answer to these two identical questions (by the same person!?) might be misleading as answered. The actual answer should have addressed whether the unit can be hardwired and directly powered by the AC transformer power source, or whether the hardwire AC power source acts only as a battery charger, providng a continuous trickle charge to the battery, and the battery is still powering the unit. If the latter is accurate, that only means that the battery does not need to be removed and recharaged every 3± months (based on use), thus just a convenience issue, but since it is still powering the unit, it will still need to be replaced eventually, as does every battery, since the hardwire option does not circumvent the battery as being the actual direct power source to the unit.

Mark's (Staff) response to the 2 questions of can it also be hardwired is not clear, and possibly is misleading. When hardwired, is the unit powered directly by the AC power source via the (optional?) transformer, or is it still being powered by the battery, and the AC power source is "only" continuously trickle-charging the battery?? IF the latter, the unit is still being powered by the battery, and the hardwiring only means the battery does not need to be removed to be recharged, but is still being used and will still eventually need to be replaced!
