Absolute beast on the RS3

0 Issues with mine. It always connects smoothly. Video feed to an iPhone has the lowest latency out of any transmitter I've used. It's a dream to put my gimbal on a tripod and gyro-control my camera to film around a room on a comfy chair lol.

Works great with RS3

Got this for the RS3 so I could control the gymbal remotely. It took a while to get it working and I had to try a few things from blogs and videos. But once I got it working it has been great.

Great hardware, disappointing software.

I bought this mainly to shot stills and video remotely, with and without a DJI gimbal. THE GOOD: It works using strong WiFi at the 2.4Ghz band or the 5Ghz band. The user can choose or it can be done automatically. I did a range test in urban environment, and the longest range was about 200 meters! The Video is sharp and has little lag, so it is very usable. The transmitted video can also be recorded to your smart device, so the RavenEye doubles as an HDMI video recorder, but no audio though. It also can show several display aids such peaking, zebras, grids, etc. The built is solid, it feels sturdy and professional quality. THE BAD: Mostly software related issues. Typical of DJI devices. :( With some cameras (Canon M6ii in my case) it lets control exposure settings (Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO) which is cool but no Exposure compensation, even though that can be done in a different section of the Ronin App. However, the fatal flaw, the deal breaker for me is that there is no control whatsoever of Focus/Auto Focus, despite the fact that DJI gimbals can perform half-press AF with the Gimbal recor button, but not through this App, nor can do press&hold for Bulb, AEB or Burst. Then it has incomplete functionality with the Ronin SC and S because the Ronin App apparently can't work with Bluetooth simultaneously. The work around is to use two smart devices to control the Gimbal with an iPhone running the Ronin App via Bluetooth while using RavenEye on an iPad via WiFi. So technically, it can be done, but DJI choose not to, to the chagrin of older Ronin gimbals users. The RavenEye front two connectors are for Mini HDMI and the other is to control the camera's exposure settings or to trigger a shot or video via USB. Alternatively, with a USB-C to headphone style cable it can trigger the shutter in many unsupported cameras. I discovered unofficially that Fuji, Panasonic and even older camera models can be triggered by the RavenEye if those have a headphone style port for remote triggering. That cable is not included with this package but can be purchased separately for $20. These two front ports are too close to each other and you need very thin cables heads for both to fit if you buy a non DJI cable. The battery doesn't last long, probably less than 2 hours and the device doesn't have a sleep mode to save power, it also gets very hot. Another fatal flaw for me is the absence of support for game controllers which is a feature I LOVE for intuitive and fun remote shooting and consider it essential. That feature is only available separately within the Ronin App, without the RavenEye video feed. I really wanted to like this fun device but is crippled by software and DJI support is terrible, the documentation is lacking so I have to spend a lot of time researching for issues, workarounds and capabilities. DJIseems to put most of its resources trying to bring the next shinning thing, but they never seem to have time to bring these devices to its fullest potential on the software/firmware side. For these reasons I'd rate it 3 stars. I'd give it 5 stars if the software related issues were resolved.

If I wanted to swap a tilta power plate and mount a battery to it, would I have room to mount the raveneye?
Asked by: Andrew
That would depend on the gimbal being used, the size of the battery and the mounting options available to it. Sinc the DJI Ronin RavenEye Image Transmission System for RS 2 & RSC 2 includes a 1/4"-20 receiver mount I would recommend using the Core SWX Powerbase EDGE LINK 70Wh Battery Pack (V-Mount), which has a 1/4"-20 screw built into the opposite side of the v-mount. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1701892-REG/core_swx_pbe_link_powerbase_edge_link_small.html

Is there a RavenEye receiver in the works? Would like to capture the live feed into a Blackmagic Switcher for live output. Has anyone found a way to get the output signal into a switcher for Live Worship? I see you could purchase the $1699 remote monitor, and the $469 remote monitor expansion plate with SDI output, but feels like there should be a more elegant solution. Perhaps in the future.
