Meike FF-Prime Cine 50mm T2.1 Reviews
Perfect Starter Cine Prime Lens
I wanted to start building experience with manual Cine lenses for several reasons and I didn't want to jump right in with a major brand name cine lens. I watched several cine budget lens reviews and some of the differences between the big brands and Meike were very small for the style of cinematography I create. I started with the 50mm and chose the Full Frame model so I could use this lens on my Canon 5D as well. I chose the Meike FF 50mm T2.1 because I was looking for finer focus control and a form factor that support efficient lens swapping on my current rig. My current Canon L series lenses are still great but in low light conditions the focus tracking tends to hunt. Using the still photography, auto focus, lenses in manual mode for very low light shots was a challenge. The range of motion for the focus ring was very short. This is required for fast auto focus lenses but the Meike cine lenses have over 300 degree rotation on the focus ring, allowing for very fine adjustments. This works well with Peeking turned on to set focus. I did notice that the focal distance scale on the Meike lens was a bit off when taking physical measurements but that is not a big deal for me. Most everything I frame up on I can't stop to take measurements for anyway. The Meike lenses tend to be a little heaver then others but it feels sold and well built. I would recommend this lens to others in my same situation.
Great prime!
Beautiful shots and you can't beat the price.
