Bright f/1.8 maximum aperture suits working in difficult lighting conditions and also offers increased control over depth of field.
One precision-molded (PMo) aspherical element suppresses spherical aberrations and distortion for high sharpness and accurate subject rendering.
Super Spectra coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize ghosting and flare for greater contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions.
STM stepping motor offers fast, quiet, smooth, and accurate autofocus performance that is ideal for video recording as well as still shooting.
Configurable Control Ring can be used to adjust a variety of exposure settings, including aperture, ISO, and exposure compensation.

I was excited to see this lens on sale as it is already a great value lens. Great for standard portraits and video with its light weight, large aperture, and quiet focusing.

Simple 50 mm lens for EOS mirrorless systems. Works great! Not the same quality as the faster lenses, but a great basic prime.

Darn Good Nifty-Fifty For The Price

I had the EF version of this little guy for many years and used it on both my Canon dslr and mirrorless bodies. I will say the RF version does seem to have a better build quality than the EF version and it's nice not having to use an adapter on a mirrorless body. Center sharpness is great at f/1.8 up to f/11, and corners sharpen up from f/2.8 to f/11. The lens is noisy when focusing so keep that in mind if you're going to use the lens for video. As always my friends at B&H processed my order quickly...I do recommend the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8!

This is the perfect people lens, sharp and crisp. My plan is to take it to Italy and get the most out of it.

Solid Prime Lens!

I purchased this lens along with a new Canon body and this lens is better than the old EF version that I used to have. 50mm is too narrow for me so I immediately purchased the 35mm lens. I don't think it's perfect but I think it's a solid lens that should be in everyone's camera bag.

Great price and very sharp

This lens (especially for the low price) is really lite, sharp, and produces nice colors.

Nifty Fifty for EOS R50, etc.

I am completely satisfied with the item. It does just what is described on the Amazon site as well as the Canon USA site. The quality and workmanship is excellent. See sample photo.

How do you manually focus this lens?

How do you manually focus this lens?
Asked by: Judith
To manually focus when using the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens, you may set the Focus Mode in your camera to Manual Focus, then set the [CONTROL/FOCUS] switch built onto the lens to [FOCUS]. You may then rotate the control ring built onto the lens to adjust your focus. You can also press the [MAGNIFY] button (button of a magnifying glass) on the back of the camera to increase the magnification on the camera's LCD screen to assist your viewing during manual focus. If the camera is set to Autofocus and the [CONTROL/FOCUS] switch is set to [FOCUS], you should also have full-time manual focus override, allowing you to focus manually while the camera is still set to autofocus mode.
