I bought this lens two years ago and I was very happy with it. It’s a great budget lens that still gets beautiful results. That being said, it broke after two years for no reason. I use this lens in my studio and I do some documentary work, but nothing that would justify it breaking after just 2 years. I didn’t drop it or do anything crazy. For reference, my old one lasted over 10 years with no issues, I just upgraded my gear. Of course the warranty is only a year so I had to pay for a whole new one. Not a great experience!

Great lens for everyone. The 50mm is often underrated and under used. Very crisp photos and the depth of field is perfect for what I’m using it for (candid life). Price to value ratio is spot on.

To manually focus when using the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens, you may set the Focus Mode in your camera to Manual Focus, then set the [CONTROL/FOCUS] switch built onto the lens to [FOCUS]. You may then rotate the control ring built onto the lens to adjust your focus. You can also press the [MAGNIFY] button (button of a magnifying glass) on the back of the camera to increase the magnification on the camera's LCD screen to assist your viewing during manual focus. If the camera is set to Autofocus and the [CONTROL/FOCUS] switch is set to [FOCUS], you should also have full-time manual focus override, allowing you to focus manually while the camera is still set to autofocus mode.
