Popular for its reach and flexibility, the Canon RF 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM is a fresh take on this well-regarded focal length, featuring an impressively sleek and lightweight form factor perfect for their full-frame mirrorless cameras. The constant f/4 maximum aperture strikes a balance between being bright enough for available light shooting while also contributing to the especially portable, handholdable design. Complementing this is an apt Optical Image Stabilizer, which compensates for up to 5 stops of camera shake, or up to an impressive 7.5 stops of shake correction when paired with an EOS R-type body with IBIS.
Optically, this lens incorporates four UD elements, which suppress a variety of aberrations throughout the zoom range for high clarity, and an Air Sphere Coating is also featured to reduce flare and ghosting. Balancing the distinguished optical system is a Dual Nano USM focus system, which delivers fast, nearly silent autofocus performance with full-time manual focus override. Additionally, this 70-200mm is weather-sealed and has a fluorine coating to protect the front and rear elements.
- RF-Mount Lens/Full-Frame Format

Canon RF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM Reviews
Fabulous lens, light, compact,
I am a professional photographer so size and weight matters to me. This is an extremely sharp lens for the size. This lens will be great for events and travel.
Incredible lightweight telephoto zoom F4 L lens
This lens is about the same size and weight as the standard 24-105 L F4 zoom lens. It has amazing clarity and stabilization. Pairing it with my standard zoom, and a 35 mm F 1.8 prime, I think I have all the lens I will ever need.
Terrific lens
I used this lens with a Canon R5 body to photograph the final stage of the 2023 Tour de France in Paris. I considered the f/2.8, but chose the f/4 because of its smaller size, lighter weight, and the considerable price difference. I was completely pleased with the performance of this lens. It is not much bigger than my 24-105. Very easy to maneuver. Focus is instantaneous and accurate using spot, field, and eye-detect. Image quality is outstanding. For the sale price, this lens was a bargain. Highly recommend.
Great lens, great value
I love this lens. It is great for lots of things, from travel to nature to portraits. I especially loved it for portraits in the field. It is relatively light and relatively inexpensive compared to the 2.8. It is still quite good in low light. Paired with the 24-105, it makes for great versatility and high quality.
RF 70-200F4
This is my first RF Lens, and I could not be happier.
Lightweight, Sharp and Soulful
Went back and forth about getting the F2.8, but after testing both in the field, I decided the creamy backgrounds at F4.0 was just right for me. After 2,000 images I'm so glad I went with this great lens.
Great Lens
Great lens for outdoor photography. The lighter lens is really welcomed for older people who like full frame photography without the added weight of lenses.
Wish they had this lens in a 24-240mm range!
Light! Super Sharp. Fast. However, I will be returning it. My main purpose for a zoom lens is for traveling and hiking. Unfortunately, the 70mm is not the most convenient in tight spaces or nature trails. When I travel I just take with me one prime lens and one zoom lens. I really wish they had this starting at 24mm or even 35mm! The fact the is dust and weather resistant a beast like this should be available starting with at least 24mm as in my opinion would be the ultimate travel lens. Canon I can’t be the only person out there with this wish!
