PolarPro Peter McKinnon Signature Edition II Variable ND Filter (77mm, 2- to 5-Stop)
Key Features
  • Variable 0.6 to 1.5 Optical Density
  • 16-Layer Multicoating
  • Quartz Glass Construction
  • Water, Oil, and Scratch Resistant
This 2- to 5-stop, 77mm Peter McKinnon Signature Edition II Variable ND Filter from PolarPro is designed for lenses with 77mm front filter threads and provides an exposure reduction of 2- to 5 stops. The 0.6 to 1.5 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing a wider aperture or slower shutter speed without overexposing your image. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, helping to predetermine the additional exposure length required. By slowing the exposure time, you convey movement or increase the blur. By increasing the aperture, the image depth of field can be more easily controlled. For easier, repeatable control over density settings, the front ring features a numbered scale of the stop values, and it also features haptic feedback to feel a click when reaching a number without the need to look at the ring. The ring features side knurling for a secure grip, enabling fast and precise positioning, and it is designed to prevent any rotation beyond the stop values etched on it.

so if I put this on an f4 lens does that make it an f2 lens
Asked by: MacKinnon
It will still be an f2 lens. What will change is the shutter speed. If a correct exposure w/o the filter is f2@125, you could expose at f2@30, 15, 8, 1/4 or 1/2 second. This would allow you to show moving objects such as clouds or water as a blur.

This is mainly for reducing the light as a whole while a polarizer will reduce glare/reflections with a minimal loss of light.

What is the outside diameter? I need it to fit inside of a SmallRig mini matte box. My 82mm tiffin is too wide at 98mm. I believe it has to be less than 95mm to be compatible.
Asked by: Patrick
We measured this at the store and it measured 89.5mm on across the front element.

Can I use this filter with an ALC-SH141 or an ALC-SH149 simultaneously? On their compatible G-master lenses.
Asked by: Tim
The PolarPro Peter McKinnon Signature Edition II Variable ND Filter (82mm), as well as most other 82mm variable ND filters, is physically larger than 82mm on the front. Therefore, it cannot be used with a lens hood because there is no room to fit the filter inside the hood.
