BH #PO8225VNDED2 • MFR #82-2/5-VND-ED2
PolarPro 82mm Peter McKinnon Signature Edition II Variable ND 0.6 to 1.5 Filter (2 to 5-Stop)
Key Features
  • Variable 0.6 to 1.5 Neutral Density
  • Reduces Exposure by 2 to 5 Stops
  • Darkens Entire Image
  • Greater Control over Exposure Settings
The 82mm Peter McKinnon Signature Edition Variable ND 0.6 to 1.5 Filter from PolarPro is designed for lenses with 82mm front filter threads and provides an exposure reduction of 2 to 5 stops. The 0.6 to 1.5 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than usually possible. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, helping to predetermine the additional exposure length required. By slowing the exposure time, you convey movement or increase the blur. By increasing the aperture, the image depth of field can be more easily controlled. For easier, repeatable control over density settings, the front ring features a numbered scale of the stop values, and it also features haptic feedback to feel a click when reaching a number without the need to look at the ring. The ring features side knurling for a secure grip and to further enable fast and precise positioning, and it is designed to prevent any rotation beyond the stop values etched on it.

This filter is constructed from quartz glass for enhanced durability. To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, 16 layers of antireflective coatings offer scratch protection to the filter substrate while promoting clarity and color fidelity. The coatings also provide improved beading when in contact with water or oil, allowing for more efficient cleaning.

The quartz optics are set within an aluminum alloy filter ring assembly for lightweight durability. The unique Defender 360 hybrid case/cover is included for storage and transport and acts as both a front cap when the filter is in place on a lens and as a rigid dustproof and waterproof storage case by adding the rear cover when the filter is not in use.

Variable neutral density filter allows applying differing amounts of density from scene to scene.
0.6 to 1.5 neutral density filter darkens the entire image area to easily photograph with a longer shutter speed for added blur or to convey more movement.
Providing a reduction of 2 to 5 stops, this filter allows a wider aperture to control the depth of field and help emphasize the subject.
Offers increased flexibility to use specific ISO settings or ISO films under bright ambient light.
Provides increased exposure flexibility while using cinema or video cameras within a designated film frame rate.
Constructed from quartz glass for enhanced durability.
Multi-coated to prevent internal ghosting and reflections while promoting clarity and color fidelity.
Side knurling allows the filter glass to be easily rotated.
Filter ring incorporates a haptic feedback mechanism for quick adjustment, without stopping to look at the filter position.
Front filter ring scale ensures that its rotation corresponds to the filter's exposure reduction range.
Microfiber cloth for cleaning and maintenance.
Includes Defender 360 hybrid cap/case for storage and transport, featuring a waterproof and dustproof seal.

The best variable ND Filter on the market. Used it this past weekend on a very sunny outdoor shoot. Edited the video with no problems in aberrations or any other artifacts.

The Best in Class

These are the most well thought out filters I've had the pleasure to use. The front rubber cap is also used as the grip to mount/demount the filter to the lens. And it also be used as a lens cap if not using a lens hood. And the rear screw on cap provides a positive means of attachment rather than a friction cap that may fall off. An additional advantage of these units is not having to use a rectangular plastic case to house the filters. Since one end is protected by a metal cap and the other by a thick rubber, they fit more easily into my backpack.

Didn't see as much X pattern as my PolaPro or other ND systems like Canon's EF-RF adapter. Note - there is some slight X pattern (but that's just how vari-ND operate) but not NEARLY as much, thanks many to the hard stops as ANY other brand.

Not cheap but you get what you pay for. Outstanding quality that improves almost every image. Very easy to work with due to notched stops. Was recommended to me and I love it

Gorgeous filter, stupid 95mm thread issue

As mentioned in another review, the thread pitch specifically on the 95mm filter is non-standard. I'm not sure why they did this. PolarPro advises you to get their 95mm/1-95mm conversion ring, which then renders the fancy screw-on case the filter is designed around, unusable, unless you take the step-down conversion ring off every time. So. Dumb.

Frustrating Fit

I bought the PolarPro 95mm Peter McKinnon Signature Edition II Variable ND filter for my Sigma 150-600 lens. Although, when I get the filter to finally attach to the lens, it inadvertantly pops off each time I place the protective cover on. Then I need to spend countless attempts to reattach the filter to the lens before I can use it again. Love what it can do, disappointed with trying to get it to attach.

Color Cast when shooting in portrait mode is absurd

Wish I never bought this. Waste of money. I was incredibly excited for this filter, compared it to the B+W, Hoya, reviews seemed to say this was the move. If this is the move, the others must be terrible. You truly can't rotate your camera if you hold it vertically. I asked polarpro to explain this and they said What you are seeing there is the result of polarization. Yes, I agree that is what is happening, but not being able to simply rotate your camera for landscape shots is utterly ridiculous. I sent them a video of rotating my camera and the color changing. They also said you can fix it in post, well sure, except that you lose tremendous detail in the photo because its not just the warmth that happens you also lose detail. HERE IS THE KICKER!!! This only happens at the 3rd stop down...no other ones. They refuse to honor that it defective. Never again.
