Offering musicians, producers, and independent engineers the combination of premium sonics, exacting build quality, and the versatility of adjustable stereo width, the Samar Audio Design VL373 passive stereo ribbon microphone delivers the performance of microphones far beyond its price point, especially considering that it is handcrafted and assembled in the USA. Thanks to its symmetrical figure-8 polar response, the VL373 is well suited for use in multi-mic configurations such as Mid-Side and Blumlein in addition to performing ideally as a primary mic on instruments and vocals.

Protected by the stainless steel body are the large 2" zigzag-corrugated, low-mass ribbons, which provide ruler-flat frequency response down to 20 Hz while the custom transformers ensure low noise and minimal distortion. An integral pop filter helps reduce plosives and protect the ribbon elements. The mic's XLR 5-pin output can be split to two XLR 3-pin cables with the included breakout cable, allowing each ribbon element to feed a separate preamp. High-gain preamps are recommended for optimal microphone performance.

Natural, Realistic Stereo Image
The mission statement for the VL373 was to create a true-to-life stereo image and this was achieved by placing two ribbon elements in very-close proximity to each other, effectively minimizing any phase distortion up to very-high frequencies. The VL373 is essentially two VL37 microphones in one chassis, a genuinely high-performance stereo ribbon microphone ready to capture your finest performances. It includes an anti-vibration shockproof clip and a US-made wooden box.
Quality Construction
Like the VL37, the motor structure and tuning of the VL373 are based on Samar's flagship MF65; all the microphones in the range use the same components. The stainless steel VL373 is entirely handcrafted and meticulously assembled using parts made exclusively in-house in Samar's US shop.
Special Ribbon Design
Each of the two durable 2" zigzag-corrugated, low-mass ribbons boasts a symmetrical figure-8 polar pattern and a fine-tuning adjustment to ensure consistency from unit to unit. The proprietary corrugation process maintains the ribbon's integrity without special handling and the integral pop filter reduces vocal plosives and blasts of air from speaker cabinets. The VL373 utilizes a sophisticated motor with an extremely short front-to-back path.
Adjustable Stereo Spread
Another special feature of the VL373 is its swivel mechanism, which allows the user to change the angle of stereo spread. The angle can be changed from 60 to 120 degrees, thus facilitating a wide range of setups from big classical orchestras (where the last rows of instruments usually get cancelled in Blumlein configuration) and full choirs to smaller ensembles, drum overheads, and single instruments, recorded in stereo.
High-End Performance
The VL373 combines premium sonics with low noise, low distortion, high output, and high SPL handling. Plus, it has amorphous-core toroidal transformers made in-house. The mic exhibits ruler-flat frequency response down to 20 Hz (-0.43 dB) with extended highs to 25 kHz and beyond, an uncommon feat for a ribbon microphone.
