The Apple 13" MacBook Air features Apple's first chip designed specifically for Mac. The Apple M1 integrates the CPU, GPU, Neural Engine, I/O, and more into a single system on a chip (SoC). Tackle your projects with the fast 8-Core CPU and take on graphics-intensive apps and games with the 7-core GPU. Accelerate machine learning tasks with the 16-core Neural Engine. Complete with a silent, fanless design and up to 18 hours of battery life, the MacBook Air is still portable, but now a lot more powerful. It also has 16GB of unified RAM and a 256GB SSD.

With over 4 million pixels, the 13.3" Retina Display features a 2560 x 1600 screen resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio for 227 pixels per inch (ppi). The display also features up to 48 percent more color than the previous generation. With True Tone technology, the white balance automatically adjusts to match the color temperature of the light around you for a more natural viewing experience.

Connect to the internet via Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) and use compatible wireless peripherals and accessories with Bluetooth 5.0. The two Thunderbolt 3 ports provide USB4 support and can even connect to the Apple Pro Display XDR in full 6K resolution. Apple also included studio-quality mics for clear recordings and calls. There is also Apple's latest camera ISP in the M1 chip, which enables sharper images and more details in shadows and highlights in video calls. Keep your MacBook Air secure with Secure Enclave in M1 as well as Touch ID. The backlit Magic Keyboard provides a comfortable typing experience, and the Force Touch trackpad allows for precise cursor control, pressure-sensing capabilities, and Multi-Touch gestures.

Please note that this MacBook Air can only output to a single external display with up to 6K resolution at 60 Hz.

This Mac comes preloaded with macOS. Updates can be downloaded for free via the Mac App Store. Please check Apple's website for upgrade eligibility.

Apple M1 Chip
Packed with 16 billion transistors, the Apple M1 integrates the CPU, GPU, Neural Engine, I/O, and more into a single system on a chip (SoC). Built with 5nm process technology, the Apple M1 delivers the performance you need without sacrificing power efficiency. The Apple M1 features four high-performance cores, each designed to run a single task, which allows for multithreaded workloads. There are also four efficiency cores to handle lighter workloads, using only a tenth of the power while still delivering fast performance. This means the Apple M1 performs up to 3.5 times faster than the previous generation while still delivering battery life up to 15 hours of wireless web browsing and up to 18 hours of video playback.
13.3" Retina IPS Display
With four times as many pixels as an HD display, the 13.3" Retina IPS Display provides up to 48 percent more color than the previous generation. The Retina Display has a 2560 x 1600 screen resolution and a 16:10 aspect ratio for 227 pixels per inch (ppi). The display glass goes right to the edge of the screen, making the bezels 50 percent thinner than before. Moreover, True Tone technology automatically adjusts the white balance to match the color temperature of the surrounding light.
True Tone Technology
With True Tone technology, the display delivers a more natural viewing experience for design and editing workflows, as well as everyday tasks like browsing the web and writing email.
Touch ID
The advanced security and convenience of Touch ID is built into the MacBook Air. Simply place your finger on the integrated Touch ID sensor and your MacBook Air unlocks. Use your fingerprint to immediately access locked documents, notes, and system settings. You can also use Apple Pay securely during checkout while online shopping. No need to enter shipping or billing info, and your card details are never shared.
Magic Keyboard
The Magic Keyboard on this MacBook Air features a scissor mechanism that delivers 1mm of key travel. There's also a physical Esc key and an inverted "T" arrangement for the arrow keys. Combined with the Touch ID, the Magic Keyboard provides a comfortable, accurate typing experience.
Thunderbolt 3 with USB4 Support
Thunderbolt 3 is a hardware interface that utilizes the reversible USB Type-C connector. Doubling the speed of its predecessor, Thunderbolt 3 features a maximum throughput of 40 Gb/s when used with compatible devices. The connector also supports USB4, allowing you to connect to more peripherals, including the Apple Pro Display XDR in full 6K resolution.
Software Features
When compared to the previous generation, the M1-powered MacBook Air can:
  • Export a project for the web with iMovie up to 3x faster

Apple MacBook Air 13.3" Late 2020 Reviews

A great value even in 2023

What can I say? The M1 MacBook Air is still going strong nearly three years after launch, and it still packs a good punch for portable workloads.

My Go-To Laptop While On The Move

After 14 years of carrying around 15 MacBook Pros - which were cumbersome and heavy, to say the least, I'm super happy that Apple now offers a much lighter and more compact Macbook Air with a super fast M1 Chip and Retina Display - so, there's no reason to go back. I shoot professionally and travel extensively, and this laptop easily fits into my (National Geographic) backpack. I was initially worried that 16 GB RAM wouldn't be able to handle full versions of Lightroom and Photoshop simultaneously, but I've been pleasantly surprised thus far.

I like this notebook, before I used to Microsoft Office, don't dare try Apple products ,after test at the B&H shop, with patience of sales person teaching,I do think and try this notebook, I do like it very much now. You also can try it if you like it but fear not familiar their software! I do believe you will like it and learn how to use it soon

    Impressed all around

I bought this to be an extra machine for homework and general kitchen use. It's way overkill for both even though it's the cheapest MacBook you can buy. We are all impressed with how capable it is especially when you consider that it's a three year old machine. In addition, it's super lightweight and has great battery life. If you're not constantly producing videos or running hard science calculations/sims, this machine is more than adequate for your needs. If it can't keep up with you, you're only out $850 and you could easily get most of that back if you sell it. We're keeping ours.

    Great upgrade!

As much as I loved my 11 MacBook Air it was time for an upgrade. And this delivered in so many ways. I'm spoiled by so many improvements it's a wonder I didn't upgrade sooner. There are much more advanced M based systems from Apple out there, but this M1 based system flies though tasks and satisfies all my computing needs. And as always the price from BH Photo was excellent!

Who needs an M2 Macbook Pro?

For just $1,000, this machine will be able to take my daughter from sophomore in high school through end of college. This replaces a really old second generation MacBook Air. The screen is sharp and contrasty, apps launch in half a blink of an eye, keyboard keys are nice and have a good feel. The rest is basic Apple, just works and now in a light, speedy, and cool running package. Not to mention the almost-full-week schoolwork battery life. Highest recommendation possible. The M2 version is 20% faster, but not worth the higher cost and doesn't necessarily extend the usable life span for our use case.

    A bit upset

The only a thing I'm upset is that when I checked for warranty for this device it doesn't show me coverage on apple site. So I have to contact Apple and provide proof of purchase and bunch of other stuff. I don't get why it doesn't show warranty coverage

    Will this work with LumaFusion?
    Asked by: SoonMeng
Yes it does, search for LumaFusion MacBook M1 on YouTube. It's not a 100% identical experience, as there's no touch, but you can click, drag and drop with the touch bar. You want to disable LumaFusion Touch Alternatives from the menu. You can transfer projects back and forth between an iPad and the MacBook. I would use FinalCut, though.
