This Canon VIXIA HF R800 Digital Camcorder Bundle is a ready-to-shoot bundle with the camcorder, battery, cables, 16GB SD card, and a convenient carrying case. Whether you're recording home videos, events, or recitals, the 57x Advanced Zoom ensures you can get the shot from the back rows of an auditorium if need be, while the Super Range O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilization) keeps the image steady at longer focal lengths. HD videos are recorded to the included 16GB SD card in the MP4 format for easy playback on most devices. MP4 files are also highly compatible with video hosting services and social media websites without format conversion.

Introduced with the HF R800 is backlight correction within the Highlight Priority mode for brighter images. The backlight correction analyzes the incoming video signal, recognizes your subject within the frame, and exposes for the subject, rather than giving an overexposed backlit background. This way, if the sun is behind your subject, you can still get a vibrant image.

3.28MP Full HD CMOS Image Sensor
This model is equipped with a 3.28MP Full HD CMOS image sensor that supports 1920 x 1080 resolution video capture. Canon's high-resolution HD CMOS sensor features extra sensitivity that delivers lifelike Full HD video with natural color, even in low light. On-chip noise reduction supports clarity in every frame, which means your video and photos will be vivid, clear, even when played back on a large HDTV.
DIGIC DV 4 Image Processor
This camcorder incorporates an advanced Canon HD DIGIC DV 4 image processor for enhanced imaging performance. The increased performance allows for better noise reduction and leads to brighter, more noise-free images, even in dark scenes.
Powerful 57x Advanced Zoom
Thanks to an impressive 57x Advanced Zoom range, long-range shooting is not a problem. You'll be able to create videos with dynamic variety, and you'll be less likely to disrupt the action you're shooting. The Advanced Zoom works well for a variety of situations including formal ceremonies, recording animals in the wild, candid family videos, and more. The Advanced Zoom is available in manual mode and has been achieved with more efficient use of the effective imaging area. It takes the camcorder's focal length from 32.5mm to 1853mm (35mm equivalent), which provides extraordinary flexibility in shooting. Plus, for more convenient shooting and better creative control over your videos, the camcorder offers continually variable zoom speed settings with three fixed zoom speeds and 15 levels available.
SuperRange Optical Image Stabilization
Canon's sophisticated SuperRange Optical Image Stabilizer corrects camera shake instantly, so even handheld video taken at long focal lengths is sharp and steady. Providing continuous adjustment throughout the entire zoom range to correct a broad range of motion (with extra compensation applied at wide-angle focal lengths), the Dynamic Image Stabilization system on this camcorder stabilizes rotational camera shake. Controlling horizontal, vertical, and roll axis rotational camera shake ensures smooth, distortion-free video, even when you're walking while shooting.
SD/SDHC/SDXC Memory Card Slot
The camcorder records Full HD video directly to a removable SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card, which lets you share your videos quickly and easily. In addition to SD memory cards, this model also lets you use high-capacity SDHC cards and higher-capacity SDXC cards.
Capacitive 3" Touch Panel LCD
A capacitive 3" touch panel LCD screen that makes recording and other operations easy. Open the panel and the power is on. A gentle touch activates the display's intuitive functions. Choose a focal point, track moving subjects, control exposure for selected areas, and operate camcorder controls from the screen, all with a touch. In addition, the easy-to-use user interface makes your shooting experience simpler. The Home button is on the menu screen and provides quick access to all functions. Clear explanations for key settings pop up when selecting shooting modes and recording formats, so you can be confident in the decisions you make.
Slow- and Fast-Motion Recording
Record fast motion at up to 1200x and slow motion at 1/2x for increased creative possibilities.
Highlight Priority Mode
The Highlight Priority Mode is a gamma setting that gives an HDR-like quality to your video. By reducing the mid to high-brightness compression of the standard gamma mode, the Highlight Priority mode helps prevent loss of detail in high-brightness areas. Designed for display on a bright LCD TV, videos captured in Highlight Priority mode should be shown at a high-brightness setting to help ensure an accurate portrayal of the effect. Highlight Priority mode in the HF R800 is bolstered by backlight correction which delivers a correctly exposed image, even with a bright background.
Framing Assistance Function
Reduces the zoom magnification when you lose sight of a subject during zooming, making it easier for you to find re-locate your subject and zoom in again.
File Lock Function
With one simple setting, you can keep your videos safe from any accidental operational errors. The File Lock function disables deletion, dividing, trimming, copying, MP4 conversion, and thumbnail changes with a touch, giving you peace of mind when children or others use your camcorder.
Camera Window Software
Camera Window software is available as a downloadable application. The software makes it easy to import MP4 and JPEG files from your VIXIA camcorder to a PC or Mac, where they can be shared and edited.

Canon HF R800 Reviews

White in time for Christmas!

This is the third VIXIA I have purchased. I have a YouTube spider channel (8 years and running) and this camera is the best I've found to do the work I need to do with a light, smaller, and amazing camcorder! I can get very close shots only 1/2 from the lens when needed. I've looked at higher priced cameras but always come back to this Canon camera offering a price that gives you a BIG bang for your buck! The guts haven't changed for 5-6 years (just the model numbers), and they don't have to. This camera, in this price range, does the amazing close up work and has an awesome variable lengthy zoom feature (32 optical/57 digital) that really brings things in quite close. It films in true HD, has Intelligent (IS), Optical Image Stabilizer (takes the shakes out) slow and fast speed filming options, films in MP4 format 35Mbps/ 60P (best quality) and can dual record at 24Mbps. Other features include an external mike jack, earphone jack, sound speaker for playing back videos from the camera and its fold out-reversible, touch screen. It has exceptional image clarity (usually found only on higher end cameras). And the sound is exceptionally clear for a smaller camera. It also has many other filming features that make this camera very functional and fun to use by both the novice and semi-pro as well. Battery life is good and lens is excellent. It comes with HDMI cables, charging unit, battery, and cable connections USB to your computer. I would recommend a second battery if you film a lot as I do. It takes an external video memory card (not included). I like the white camera casing because when filming for any length of time in the sun (as I do) the black casing can get quite warm whereas the white case reflects the suns heat, which is better for the camera so as not to overheat. I thought this camera was on the discontinued/out of stock list, but some (brand new in the box) have re-surfaced much to my delight. Better move quickly though and get one while you still can, for you won't find a better camera for quality of product in this price range again! And I would bet Canon will eventually discontinue it so get one before they're gone!

X-Ma's gift

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my son so, he has not used it yet. At this point my only commentary is about the physical size of the camcorder. I was very surprised how tiny it is. I'm talking TINY here people. Definitely not what I expected. But, we will see how he likes it before I give it more than a few stars.

Small size, great resolution and low-light video

Purchased this to record student presentations for a class I teach. So far the quality and performance has not let me down. The video quality is great (for HD - which is what I needed). The audio quality is reasonable - I will be moving the camera closer to the presenters for the next round to improve the audio side of the recordings. I may look into a remote microphone setup.

I only just received this camera as a gift from the Hubbs, and so far, it is super user friendly! We use it around the house for the pets so far, and a FriendsGiving Party we attended, and the fact that you can edit right on the screen is amazing!!

Does well

It does everything I bought it for. The next one I get, I will get one with a remote control. I record me playing music, then post. I do so many retakes, and, getting up and down, and laying down my instrument to go over and restart the camera is a drag. But, not the fault of this model.

Can a shotgun mic be mounted?
Asked by: nancy
It depends on the shotgun mic that you need to mount. The Canon R800 does not have any mounting points directly on the body except the 1/4-20 thread at the bottom for mounting on a tripod. You could using something like the Vello Dual-Shoe Bracket with Grip to attach it.

How good does it do while live-streaming do I need a video capture card to connect to my laptop?
Asked by: Peter
The Canon VIXIA HF R800, like most cameras and camcorder needs an encoder AKA capture card in order for it to live stream. Which one depends on your computer input. Here is a good one for most users. Atomos Connect 2 4K HDMI to USB Converter BH #ATOMCON002 • MFR #ATOMCON002(<---- Please copy and paste either number into a B&H search box) You will need an HDMI cable as well. How is the battery charged? I see no 'charger' or external supply listed as 'in the box'. When long term (1-2 hrs) use on a tripod is needed how is battery kept charged? There is a connector for external DC....is this extra?
Asked by: Gary
The Canon Vixia HF R800 charges the battery when it is plugged into the battery bay of the camera and the camera is plugged into the wall with the Canon CA-110 Compact AC Power Adapter & Charger that is included in the package. If you would like an external charger to charge the battery without the camera, the Watson Compact AC/DC Charger for BP-700 Series Batteries BH #WACCNBP718 can be looked towards. https://bhpho.to/3Frzmsu
