Zoom AM7 Reviews
Great sound but fragile
The mic worked immediately it was plugged into the Pixel 3, not issues with that at all. The sound quality is great, so much better than the built-in mics, with adjustable stereo width and input volume. The included windshield doesn't do much though. I was recording waterfalls and bird sounds in a forest and found that the sensitivity can be a bit of a problem as it picks up the slightest sound. Turning the gain down to about 3 worked well. This applied to video too and I got some great audio tracks with the footage. I also recorded some acoustic guitar and flute with good results although the guitar was bit brittle. Transferring the various audio tracks to the computer and playing them back through a good sound system was amazing. However, I was concerned that the AM7 came without a case and I later discovered that it is rather fragile. I had searched for a suitable case but found nothing so wrapped it in a beanie in my coat pocket when not using it while hiking. Unfortunately, leaning against a tree for a photo, it came between me and the tree and snapped at the neck, the junction between the mics and the body. I got a Pelican Micro 1020 with foam insert which I hope will work. PROS: easy to install and use, great audio quality, useful options. CONS: no case, rather fragile.
