Ryzen Brand Processors
Utilizing AMD CPU architecture, the ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero motherboard allows you to use Ryzen 5000 series, 4000 G-series, 3000 series, 3000 G-series, 2000 series, and 2000 G-series desktop processors. This wide array of components is ideal for creating an optimized gaming rig.
Enhanced Memory Performance
ASUS Optimem III improves signal integrity and mitigates digital noise, allowing memory kits to run at lower latencies and reduced voltages while operating at higher frequencies.
Premium Components
The AMD X570 chipset is made from premium components and utilizes a 14+2 power stage mosfet system, rated to handle up to 90 amps of power. MicroFine alloy chokes accompany each power stage for enhanced electrical performance. Input and output filtering is provided by solid-polymer capacitors rated to last thousands of hours at high operating temperatures. Dual 8-pin ProCool II power connectors ensure snug and reliable connections for 12-volt power lines. Together, these components manage electrical power for your gaming needs.
Extreme Cooling Power
The ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero is equipped with a wide array of cooling enhancements for extreme gaming sessions. A VRM and dual M.2 heatsink design works alongside the passive chipset heatsink to keep components from overheating, while multiple 4-pin fan headers and the ROG Water-Cooling Zone allow you to install a variety of fan- or water-cooling systems for increased cooling capabilities.
RGB Lighting with Aura Sync
With two 4-pin Aura RGB headers and two 3-pin Addressable gen 2 RGB headers, you can connect a variety of colorful devices to your motherboard for a stylized look. Additional lighting is integrated right onto the PCH, I/O, and Armor Zone areas with the Aura illumination system for additional luminescence. All of this is controlled with ASUS' Aura Sync program, which allows you to adjust lighting effects and colorization with ease. Additionally, you can configure RGB lighting in supported ROG gaming products with the included Armoury Crate software utility.
SupremeFX Audio
Equipped with Japanese-made Nichicon capacitors, the SupremeFX 7.1-channel surround sound creates a rich, high-definition sound experience. 120dB SNR stereo playback output provides a deep sound, allowing you to sink into your games easily. Sonic Studio III is also included, enabling you to fine-tune your audio experience while also allowing you to record various sounds with optional hardware. The audio jacks themselves are gold plated for optimal sound conductivity, and audio line shielding blocks electromagnetic interference from the motherboard or addons for cleaner sound.
DIY Friendly
An array of features focused on making troubleshooting issues easier is built right into the ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero motherboard. The pre-mounted I/O shield allows easier installation into the PC case, while ESD guards prevent electrostatic discharge from affecting the back panel USB, audio, and LAN ports. LED Q-code panel shows a two-digit code that reflects system status. FlexKey button acts as a system reset button, Aura lighting activation, safe boot, or BIOS function for quick access.
Enhanced Ports
The two PCIe 4.0 x16 slots have increased durability with Safeslot technology, made for greater shearing resistance and better device retention. Optimization Applications
The included AI Suite 3 allows you to fine-tine every aspect of the ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero system with ease. Manage and optimize various hardware settings with the TurboV Processing Unit, Energy Processing Unit, fan control, voltage-regulator module, and Turbo application. Ramcache III allows you to cache all storage devices to maximize system resources.
Networking Capabilities
Experience ultrafast wireless-networking speeds with Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) capabilities that improve performance in dense environments, providing enhanced gaming speeds. If you prefer a wired connection, you may utilize the on-board 2.5G LAN Ethernet adapter for lag-free gaming. An additional Gigabit Ethernet controller is also available for teaming capabilities by increasing network bandwidth and transfer speeds with less CPU overhead.

ASUS Crosshair VIII Dark Hero Reviews

Love it!

This is the mother of all motherboards for the AM4 platform! I am new to PC building and this motherboard was suggested as the go to one, I have tried out others and this one just has a better build quality and overall just looks amazing. The performance is unmatched as well, I would say it is a bit pricey but it is worth it for a top notch motherboard and I would recommend this product to people looking into the AM4 realm.

Great Board

I purchased a barebones that came with a Mobo, GPU, PSU and Case all were ASUS. I needed to add the CPU, RAM and SSD's. However here was my dilema. I have a Ryzen 9 5900X and the Mobo that came with this barebones was for an LGA 1200 (yuck) so I needed to replace the Hero Maximus that came with my kit to this one and man was I impressed. Couple of things that I was dissatisfied with such as only one 3.2 Gen 2 19 pin connection on the board opposed to two on the other one. Also, only 2 9 pin connectors for USB 2.0 which one was lost as I need to use an adapter to gain access to the rest of the usb ports on the case. Howver once I was able to get everything sorted with adapers and extension cables, this mobo is a complete beast with options that I probable wont ever really use. This mobo takes overclocking to the next level and although I am running a little over, I am allowing it to do it automatically opposed to tinkering with these specs as there are to many and I need to begin to really learn more before I attempt to venture into that realm.

I posted my results for AMD Ryzen 9 5950X CPU installed on this board. Very pleased with incredible performance of this board. I also was impressed with that all the USB port on the back plate were 3.1, 3.2, and Type C. No wimpy USB 2.0 or even USB 3.0 on this guy. Strictly top shelf.

An Exceptional AM4 Motherboard

This is a really nice Motherboard. It's got all the features one could ask for, except it is lacking in a couple of areas - if you're a hardcore enthusiast. The first thing it lacks is sufficient USB Headers. When I built my newest rig (Ryzen 9 5950X, Radeon 6950XT, 128GB Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB, Corsair H150i Elite Capellix AIO) I ran out of USB headers on the board. There are three on the Dark Hero, and I needed four in order to use the USB ports on my Case, the Corsair Fan Control Module, the AIO, and a separate ASUS Wi-Fi 6E PCI-E Card. Granted, the Dark Hero DOES have Wi-Fi 6 built in, but not 6E. So that was kind of a bummer. It would also be nice to get PCI-E 4.0 X16 usability out of all three of the PCI-E 4.0 slots, but it switches to X8, X8, when using the CPU-Linked PCI-E lanes. I suppose that's a limitation of the CPU, though. Overall, this is an exceptional AM4 Motherboard, and I am very happy with it.

Favorite Hero

This was my favorite X570 mobo when I was running my 5950. This board has it all and is a step up from the X570 Strix E option. This mobo served me well while I was using and has since been passed down to my son since I moved to the intel platform. This board has excellent features and is a great option for gamers looking for a upper tier board. Post code, bios flashback, nvme drives, great appearance, the list goes on and on. I would strongly recommend this board for those who want the X570 chipset.

Is this the x570s version of this board? In the specs it mentions having passive chipset cooling thus meaning it's the x570s version. I want to be sure before I purchase since I was the x570s version of this board.
Asked by: Justin
X570 is the chipset for both x570 and x570S. Before the refresh and the removal of the small fan for passive cooling, you had to pay a Premium (like Dark Hero motherboard) to get a X570 Board without the cooling fan on the chipset. The newer X570S provide that passive cooling without the premium, although there may be offsets for the reduction of heat at a lower cost

Does this one have the x570s chipset?
Asked by: Anonymous
x570s isn't a chipset, the chipset is the X570, the S is the passive cooling on the newer boards versus the active cooling on the original (the little fan). Originally you had to pay a premium to get passive cooling.

What RAM would you suggest to reach 128GB for this board?
Asked by: Dan
The issue with 3600mhz is that it does not do that speed at 128gb. It is still easier to down clock from 3600 to 3300 or 3200. But getting 3200 at 16CL is still better and more stable at that size of ram. And the prices have jumped up since I last bought them. I paid $280 for my 64gb set. Now they are $344. And for a 128gb you would need two kits @ $688 together. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1548849-REG/crucial_bl2k32g32c16u4b_ballistix_64gb_32x2_3200_mhz.html
