Adopting a familiar, intuitive form factor, the Nanlite FS-150 AC LED Monolight is a powerful fixture that employs COB LEDs with a color temperature of 5600K (for shooting in daylight-dominated environments) while its high CRI/TLCI rating of 96/98 is an indicator of advanced color rendering capability. The FS-150 is dimmable too from 0 to 100% without flicker, while it delivers an even light spread that thwarts hotspots when used in a softbox. A real asset in sound-sensitive environments, the FS-150 employs fan cooling for quiet performance.

One of the light's handy features is its Bowens-style light modifier mount that not only allows use of Nanlite light-shapers, but also those from the many manufacturers that use this popular mount. Another bonus is the FS-150's 11 special effects that include Loop, Flash, Pulse, Storm, TV, Paparazzi, Candle/Fire, Bad Bulb, Fireworks, Explosion, and Welding. The light is ready for worldwide use thanks to its 100 to 240 VAC power supply. It is provided with a reflector and a 14.8' power cable.

Practical Effects

With customizable pre-programmed special effects in a simple-to-master menu system, the FS-150 makes it easy to imitate lighting scenarios that can otherwise be tricky to recreate. At the touch of a button, you can simulate 11 different practical lighting effects including Loop, Flash, Pulse, Storm, TV, Paparazzi, Candle/Fire, Bad Bulb, Firework, Explosion, and Welding.

Fully Integrated Monolight with In-body Cooling

A true monolight, the FS-150 combines the control unit, power adapter, and lamp body into one compact unit. The integrated design makes it more lightweight and enables effective heat dissipation, ensuring the fixture performs at its best for longer.

Powerful, Even Light Output

The daylight-balanced FS-150 LED Monolight from Nanlite utilizes a larger LED array than most COB LED monolights to deliver high output as well as a smooth and even light spread, with no hotspots when used in a softbox.

Bowens-Style Light Modifier Mount:

By utilizing the near-universal Bowens-style light modifier mount and incorporating an umbrella holder into the yolk, the FS-150 is compatible with a massive selection of light modifiers. Including, but not limited to, Nanlite's line of Fresnels, softboxes, and umbrellas.

The lights are awesome. I got this to work alongside my Nanlite 300B kit. There is very low fan noise and the light output packs of punch. Thd FS-150 is great for indoor lighting and the price wouldn't break the bank

I just bought a second one on sale. Excellent light, much better in most ways than the Aputure 120d. This light is more powerful and more color accurate than the Aputure. It is also an all-in-one head design which means no ballast or power sources hanging off of cables, which is good for me but others may want controls lower on the stand. If that's the case, it comes with a remote control. I can control all of my Nanlite FS lights with a single remote from the subject position. Build quality is wonderful, especially considering the price point and comparing to other inexpensive lights such as the Amarans or Amaran clones. The COB design is different so expect to use as designed, which is through diffusers like a soft box, instead of as a spot. I am glad that I researched and bought these Nanlite FS lights because honestly I have not used an LED lights that can do what these can for the price point offered. These lights are steal even at full price.

New Firmware made it perfect!

I got this light because, in my opinion, it had an excellent price/quality ratio. In January, Nanlite released a firmware update that made this light perfect. A new update now allows this light to be controlled by a phone (via Bluetooth) in addition to the remote control that came with the light. The update also allows you to turn off the fan completely and make this light absolutely silent. The limitation of turning the fan off is that the light won't go beyond 10% of its full power, but that makes total sense. You won't need 150W of light if you are so close to your subject and a microphone. I think at this moment this is the best light for around 200$

Great Starter Monolight, Bright and Quiet

By Adam

This is my first monolight. I was looking for something that would be quiet, since I most frequently film in small spaces. As a result, I didn't need a hugely powerful light, but did want something that would be a bit more flexible than the more budget-friendly 60W monolights out there. Build quality is very good, even the yoke and clamp feel sturdy, though they are made of plastic. This light does have a fan, and it's very quiet. I've had the light running ~80% for over an hour and didn't notice a change in fan noise. My one complaint is that the Bowens-mount isn't as secure feeling as I would like. Attachments are able to jiggle a little, though they don't fall out. As far as brightness, it's way more than I need for the small room I do most of my filming in, though not bright enough to, say, compete with daylight outdoors. I plan on buying at least one more of these in the future and, when my needs expand, the FS-300 will be on my list, as well.

Should have bought two.

Picked up one of these lights on sale. Have used it as the key light with a parabolic soft box for interviews. Works great. Easy to dial in brightness. A very nice change from using my ancient hot lights. There was no issue of fan noise from the light. It ran very quiet. I was using a shotgun mic on a boom. Very satisfied with this purchase.

Has anyone measured fan noise? Is it quiet enough for an acoustic music recording environment?
Asked by: Brian
While we do not have a decibel measurement, the fan in the Nanlite FS-150 AC LED Monolight would be loud for an acoustic situation, and might not be the best fit for that situation. The fan cannot be turned off at the light fixture. The only way for the fan to be turned off is with the NANLINK app. The output of the light will drop down to about 50% of the light with the fan turned off. As such, as an alternative, you may instead consider the Nanlite FS-300 AC LED Monolight and use the app to turn off the fan so you can get the output you need.

You can mount 5 units of Nanlite FS-150 AC LED Monolight on a Triple Header stand. If you will be using flash units instead you can synchronize them through radio transmitters.
