Impressively Bright, Surprisingly Compact

A classic wide-angle prime with an updated, sleek form factor, the Sony FE 35mm f/1.4 GM is further characterized by its speed and advanced optical design. The versatile focal length suits everything from street shooting to landscape and documentary subjects, and the fast maximum aperture excels in low light and for controlling depth of field.

G Master Optical Design

As part of Sony's esteemed G Master series, this lens is designed to achieve a balance of impressive resolution and sharpness along with distinctive and pleasing bokeh.
  • Two XA (extreme aspherical) elements effectively control astigmatism, field curvature, coma, distortion, and other spherical aberrations for a high degree of sharpness and accurate rendering.
  • One extra-low dispersion element reduces chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color neutrality.
  • Nano AR Coating II has been applied to reduce surface reflections, flare, and ghosting for increased contrast and color rendering in strong lighting conditions. This updated coating is better suited for larger, curved elements and is especially adept at minimizing internal reflections.

Wide-Angle Versatility and f/1.4 Speed

  • The 35mm focal length is inherently versatile; perfectly suited for street, landscape, and reportage subjects, it also excels as a creative choice for other applications like fashion and portraiture.
  • Fast f/1.4 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions and also helps to control depth of field and produce selective focus effects.
  • Rounded 11-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.

Fast and Precise Focusing

Two XD Linear Motors provide quick, quiet, and precise autofocus and subject tracking performance. This design also contributes to more natural, intuitive Linear Response manual focus control and an AF/MF switch is located on the lens barrel for tactile control over this setting.
  • Internal focusing design offers more responsive focusing performance and maintains a consistent overall lens length during operation.
  • Minimum focusing distance of 9.8" suits making dynamic close-up images.
  • Despite its wide-angle field of view, the close minimum focusing distance and bright maximum aperture enable creating shallow depth of field imagery characterized by a strong close-up subject and a soft background.

Durable and Reliable Design

Besides signaling impressive optics, G Master lenses are also characterized by a robust and reliable physical construction that includes weather sealing and protective coatings.
  • Unique among fast wide-angle primes, the 35mm f/1.4 GM is distinguished by its sleek and lightweight form factor, measuring 3 x 3.9" and weighing 1.1 lb.
  • Dust- and moisture-sealed design better permits working in inclement conditions and rubberized control rings benefit handling in colder temperatures.
  • Fluorine-coated front element resists dust, moisture, and fingerprints and is easy to clean.
  • A focus hold button is featured on the lens barrel for intuitive tactile control and rapid access to select settings.
  • Physical aperture ring can be de-clicked for smooth, silent aperture switching to benefit video applications.

Sony FE 35mm f/1.4 GM Reviews

As an avid hiker, this is a wonderful lens.

As an avid hiker in the northeast part of the United States (NH and ME), I consider this an ideal lens. With the twist of the aperture ring I can either capture what I see in front of me on the trail, or isolate something that has caught my eye, both of which will have incredible sharpness, wonderful bokeh, or both. Additionally, the inherent sharpness of this lens allows me, via cropping, to capture details of distant peaks. I could not n=be happier with this lens.

Paired with my Sony A7C and is the perfect all around lens for my purposes, which is non-pro street and portrait photography

Sharp lens. Decent size. A bit bigger and heavier than I'd like it to be for my Sony A7C but it's a perfect all-around lens for me.

I primarily shoot Food Photography, but I like to shoot street photography as well. I purchased this lens primarily for Street photography, and it did not disappoint. The sharpness and contras are amazing. So, I tried to use the lens for Food photography as well. And wow. Now it's my Go-to lens for everything. It never comes off my camera. I am really happy with this investment.

Best 35mm I own

The Sony 35mm 1.4 GM is easily the best 35mm lens I have ever had. It is very sharp, even at f/1.4. It is now my everyday lens on my A7C. This combination is great for any light condition.I highly recommend this over the Sony Zeiss 35mm 1.4 ZA.

Produces sharp and clean images at F1.4. Good build quality and materials. A bit heavier and bigger than expected... about the limit of the A7 III and IV cameras without feeling too off-balance.

I love the 35mm focal length so I went ahead and bought the best one out there for my Sony a7RIII. I have no regrets. The lens is sharp corner to corner and the image quality is outstanding. I love it! It is worth every penny.

My first GM-Versatile Quality

This is my first GM lens. I think this will be on my camera for the foreseeable future as my all purpose lens. I like the versatility of being able to shoot wide open street, night and portrait photography. The lens size is moderate, but I am good with carrying it around anywhere and think it's not bad for the quality. I'm using this lens for street, but would also purchase a smaller but quality f/2 GM lens if Sony made one. I've decided I'm a prime lens person (I also have 85 Batis). The other Sony lenses I plan to purchase are: 20 f1.8 G for landscape & Astro, 200-600 G for wildlife/landscape, 50 f1.2 GM for portraits/ all purpose. BH website is a lot better than Adorama. BH customer service is good, therefore my preferred source for lenses and gear.
