I would recommend going with one that is a bit thicker to spread the weight out a bit more, but technically yes this strap would work with the Canon 5D Mark III.

Is this strap long enough to use as a shoulder sling style strap?
The strap is 42 inches long when laid flat on a surface. Depending on the person, for someone with a small to small/medium frame and personal preference as to where you want the camera to land on your body slinging over the shoulder with this strap can work comfortably. There are other brands of straps made specifically for slinging across the body such as Black Rapid to be found on the B&H Website.

The rings that connect the thin webbing to the thick part of the strap feel flimsy to me. Are they plastic or metal?
I cannot say! It seems metal to me, but it could be a very strong kind of plastic (and I mean STRONG). Im using this strap often, and as any Domke stuff; im very satisfied whit it!! I must say that is a heavy duty strap...Good luck!

Can strap be connected to small rings on camera body?? The included strap uses small cord to attach through the small rings.
I have several of these 1 Domke straps, some of which are attached to cameras that use D rings. They work fine and are my favorite kind of strap. However none of my Domke straps have a cord like you describe.

Will this strap work on a rollicord Vb?
Do not buy this strap. The Domke straps used to be great about 30 years ago. Sadly, The strap weaving is thin, and the stitching on the end which connects to the camera can be easily ripped open. If you have a camera store where you live- go there - and test out the straps especially for a camera with a bit of weight like the Rolleicord.
