Achieve time-lapse photos of blooming flowers, sunsets, or the night sky. The wireless remote allows reduced camera shake when photographing subjects under high magnification or at slow shutter speeds—the less the camera is touched, the sharper the image is. Capture candid photos or photograph dangerous subjects remotely from up to 196 feet away. Choose from 1 to 199 continuous shots or set the remote to trigger an unlimited number of photos.

The Wireless ShutterBoss 4.0 is lightweight and portable, making it a perfect companion for photo outings or your next wilderness adventure. The transmitter and receiver are each powered with just two AAA batteries (not included) and quickly pair with an Automatic Smart Code. Set programs quickly using intuitive controls and an easy-to-read backlit LCD screen that displays your active settings and can illuminate when working in low-light conditions. This remote system is full-featured and compact, and it makes for a powerful, creative tool for your photography.

Interval Shooting

Exposure Count
Select anywhere from 1 to 199 continuous shots or set the ShutterBoss 4.0 to take an unlimited number of exposures.
Exposure Time Bracketing
Bracketing a series of shots allows several images at different exposures to be captured. These images can later be combined in post to create HDR photos or use this feature to select the best exposed image.
Wireless Range
Shoot from up to 196 feet away to capture candid photos or take pictures of dangerous wildlife from a safe distance.
Smart Code Pairing
Smart code pairing works automatically and chooses the best frequency between the transmitter and receiver. This way you can use both devices right out of the box with very little setup time.

Vello ShutterBoss 4.0 Reviews

Danger to camera, incorrect Pin assignment.

After multiple eMail exchanges with Gratus Group Support (Vello) I discovered that their cable uses pin #2 as "Ground" where Nikon explicitly defined that pin as "Data RX (TTL) to Camera" for this pin. Nikon allows ground through pins #4 & #5 (see attached images). This issue came up when the "Interval" function failed to properly function during long multi-exposure AstroPhotography sessions while the Shutterboss was attached to an "di-GPS Pro" unit which has a 10-pin passthrough port to allow remote shutter support while using the GPS. Dawn Tech. (di-GPS) properly uses pin #2 as specified by Nikon for "Data RX (TTL) to Camera". I should note that the Shutterboss 4.0 works fine in the absence of any device that needs to use pin #2 for data to the camera. In my opinion Gratus Group (Vello) should modify their cable to properly use pin #4 as their ground and recall all cables shipped with the Shutterboss 4. Using pin #2 improperly as Ground could place the camera electronics at risk as well as that of any device in-line with the Shutterboss 4.0. Note that the Nikon published pin map in the attached image clearly states that Pin #2 is Data RX (TTL) to Camera, NOT Ground. I will add that both companies support has been phenomenal.

Vello ShutterBoss 4 Delight

Purchased a Vello ShutterBoss 4 from B&H. Planning to use it for astrophotography and regular daytime photo/videography with using a Sony A7SIII. Dealing with B&H is always a delight, quick purchase procedures and delivery as usual. Setting up and testing the Vello ShutterBoss 4 were as easy as it gets. Did a quick 50x30 sec exposure , 5 sec interval (with a 5 sec delay start) and worked flawless. I never used an intervalometer, but this one is a winner for me at least.

I used this for self portraits in different farm locations. It worked from 20 feet away to 50 yards away without any problems. Great remote trigger.

Works better than expected.

Only tried it a couple times seem to function exceptionally well. I had cheaper models I wasn't pleased with. Time will tell.

It is so nice when something works out of the box exactly the way you hoped it would. I charged my batteries, plugged the Vello into my R5 then bam. It worked. And it worked from, across the room and across the yard. Haven't begun trying the additional release options. I just needed a remote with good range. Those who ask why not use the Canon Wireless App on my phone? I have been using that for years - before my R5. It works nicely - when it works. But all too often in the field, when I needed something reliable in a pinch, I got out the wired cable release. Problem is the cable gets in the way and is too short. Vello rocks!

Nice remote

I have used it in the house to photograph our cats to see if it functions correctly and to get familiar with it. I purchased this remote to photograph hummingbirds in our back yard. This remote has a lot more reach than the other remote I have been using the last several years. Using the remote on a D7100 and a D750 with a 300 f4 prime and a 200-500 f5.6. Two things I like right off with the new remote is the single and continuous exposure modes and pressing the shutter release button halfway down for autofocus, just like the cameras shutter release button. Now just have to wait for the hummingbirds to migrate.

Another winner from Vello
