FUJIFILM XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR Overview

By B&H Photo's

Sporting a slim and portable form factor, the XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR from FUJIFILM is characterized by its updated exterior design and versatile 41mm equivalent focal length for everyday shooting. Now featuring a weather-sealed construction, this wide-normal prime also incorporates a manual aperture ring for intuitive and tactile exposure control, however an 'A' position can also be used for camera-based settings adjustments.

In terms of optics, one aspherical element is featured and helps to reduce distortion and spherical aberrations, and a Super EBC coating has also been applied to control flare and ghosting. Additionally, benefitting both photo and video applications, a high-torque DC coreless motor is used to realize quick, accurate, and near-silent autofocus performance.

Short normal-length prime is designed for APS-C-format FUJIFILM X-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 41mm equivalent focal length.
Modestly bright f/2.8 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light, affords control over depth of field, and helps to keep the overall physical design compact and lightweight.
Pancake form factor measures less than 1" thick for an ultra-portable, versatile design.
One aspherical element limits distortion and spherical aberration in order to realize greater sharpness and accurate rendering.
Super EBC coating has been applied to individual elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.
High-torque DC coreless motor provides especially quick, precise, and responsive autofocus performance.
Updated physical design incorporates a manual aperture ring with a locking 'A' position for intuitive, tactile exposure control.
Weather-resistant design prevents dust and moisture from entering the lens and to enable worry-free use in inclement conditions and freezing temperatures as low as 14°F.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

FUJIFILM XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR Reviews

Turns your Fuji X-E into a virtual X100V

There should be more love for this little gem. 27mm is wide enough that a few steps farther back it will substitute for a 23mm; at worst, take a few portrait-oriented photos and stitch panorama in post. 27mm is also standard enough that with slight crop it can substitute for a 35mm. It's small, and my copy at least is incredibly sharp. What I use it for: I put this on my X-E3, wrap it in Domke wrap and keep it in my backpack or other bag so I have a great camera with me at all times. Remember, f/11 and be there. The only downside is that it is one of the most noisy of Fuji lenses. You'll want to manually focus it if you're in a cathedral, library, or other quiet place.

Good not Great

For me, and my intended usage, the revised 27mm WR is a reasonable compromise for the pancake form factor. AF slow and noisy, close focus non-existent, F/2.8 unremarkable, Fuji tax means $400+ for a very basic item. On the other hand, the WR and aperture ring are solid upgrades on the prior version at the same/similar form factor and makes my X-E nearly pocketable. I knew most of this going in, and it's still a fairly decent piece of kit, but in any situation where size is less an issue I'll grab the 18-55 or 35 1.4 for the versatility or speed.

Amazingly Small but Inexcusably Loud Focus

This lens basically transformed my Xpro3 into a small, compact carry everywhere camera and I love the form factor. The autofocus is grindy and loud-we're talking 1990's point and shoot loud. It was almost a deal breaker for me, but I am still looking forward to using this lens regularly.

Very Sharp Optics

I was a little hesitant to get this lens as I knew it was much noisier than other Fuji lenses (35mm f/2 R WR, etc.), but I went for it by ordering the lens and waiting for when B&H finally had one. The wait was shorter than expected, only about 1 month. The lens is tack sharp up close wide open, something the 23mm f/2 R WR is lacking (although the 23mm is better at f/2.8 and f/4). This lens is noisier than other of the new lenses, and is similar to the 16mm f/1.4 as far as focusing noise is concerned. And noise is the only negative of this lens, as the size, weight, and sharpness outweigh the only negative. At 84 grams (3 ounces), this lens can't be beat!!

Superb addition to one of the X-E cameras

The XF27 is a superb addition to one of the X-E cameras. I had the old version on my first ever Fuji, the X-E2. Now I have the newer WR version on my X-E4, giving me great photo results in a really small form factor. This combo is the closest thing you can get to a pocketable Fuji X-camera! And it is so small, I can walk around with my X-E4 with the XF 18 F2.0 mounted and just throw the 27 in my pocket... no camera bag needed!

Exceeded my expectations

I wanted a lens/X-T30 combo that I can fit in my jacket pocket or day pack, and it accomplishes this and more. The focus, clarity and sharpness are above my expectations, and the 41mm equivalent is just right in my lens line-up. I will probably still buy the X100V whenever it comes back in stock, but this lens is a great stop-gap, in the meantime. Thanks to B&H creativity, this "sold-out" lens was available as gray-market, and I've always trusted B&H to stand by their product warranties.

Great street lens

Wanted a smaller Pancake lens for street photos for my XT5, and this has not disappointed. Camera is now light and easy to get those quick street shots when lots of people are around and keep moving quickly.

Great compact Lens

Sharp, small, lightweight. Love the just-wide-of-normal format; perfect for everyday carry with XE-4.
