FUJIFILM XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR Overview

By B&H Photo's

Sporting a slim and portable form factor, the XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR from FUJIFILM is characterized by its updated exterior design and versatile 41mm equivalent focal length for everyday shooting. Now featuring a weather-sealed construction, this wide-normal prime also incorporates a manual aperture ring for intuitive and tactile exposure control, however an 'A' position can also be used for camera-based settings adjustments.

In terms of optics, one aspherical element is featured and helps to reduce distortion and spherical aberrations, and a Super EBC coating has also been applied to control flare and ghosting. Additionally, benefitting both photo and video applications, a high-torque DC coreless motor is used to realize quick, accurate, and near-silent autofocus performance.

Short normal-length prime is designed for APS-C-format FUJIFILM X-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 41mm equivalent focal length.
Modestly bright f/2.8 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light, affords control over depth of field, and helps to keep the overall physical design compact and lightweight.
Pancake form factor measures less than 1" thick for an ultra-portable, versatile design.
One aspherical element limits distortion and spherical aberration in order to realize greater sharpness and accurate rendering.
Super EBC coating has been applied to individual elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.
High-torque DC coreless motor provides especially quick, precise, and responsive autofocus performance.
Updated physical design incorporates a manual aperture ring with a locking 'A' position for intuitive, tactile exposure control.
Weather-resistant design prevents dust and moisture from entering the lens and to enable worry-free use in inclement conditions and freezing temperatures as low as 14°F.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

FUJIFILM XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR Reviews

Very Sharp Optics

I was a little hesitant to get this lens as I knew it was much noisier than other Fuji lenses (35mm f/2 R WR, etc.), but I went for it by ordering the lens and waiting for when B&H finally had one. The wait was shorter than expected, only about 1 month. The lens is tack sharp up close wide open, something the 23mm f/2 R WR is lacking (although the 23mm is better at f/2.8 and f/4). This lens is noisier than other of the new lenses, and is similar to the 16mm f/1.4 as far as focusing noise is concerned. And noise is the only negative of this lens, as the size, weight, and sharpness outweigh the only negative. At 84 grams (3 ounces), this lens can't be beat!!

Perfect for X-E3

I bought this lens to add to my lens selection for use on my X-E3. It will be used for travel and given the size and weight I think I will be very happy with it.

Completes my prime lens kit ...finally

After waiting for a long time to have the lens finally become available (as during normal times past), I got it from my favorite source ... B&H. I wanted the lens to use on my Fuji XE-3 and it has become my favorite prime lens for that camera, complementing my 16,35,and 50mm primes..Photos are sharp, auto-focus is fast, and it is a joy to use one-handed. This setup has allowed me to replace my trusty seven-year old, and still great, X100T camera with zero regrets.

For those of us who are xpro3 fans this is the perfect t lens for this camera. Small and discreet. And , of course, the ideal lens for Fuji shooters with aperture control on the lens which is the perfect lens for Street shooting and for those of us who really take the time to adjust the depth of field. A perfect Fuji package. Sharp as heck as well!G

Perfect X-Mount Lens for Daily Carry

By Alex
Rated 4 out of 5
Date: 2022-08-09

This lens turns your X-mount Fujifilm camera into a highly portable point-and-shoot. You'll want to carry your camera with you every day when you've got this one! The 2.8 max aperture may not be the fastest lens but the trade-off is you get to carry your camera around in more situations. A little soft around the edges when shooting at 2.8 so this lens is best in daylight or well lit environments. As long as you don't expect too much from this lens you will have a lot of fun with it. The small size helps with capturing candid moments and avoiding the tourist look or the intrusive giant-lens-in-your-face look. The crop factor will bring this 27mm lens to a 41ish mm field of view which is a little tighter than your average cell phone, which will greatly improve your photography by forcing you to think about your shots.

Superb addition to one of the X-E cameras

The XF27 is a superb addition to one of the X-E cameras. I had the old version on my first ever Fuji, the X-E2. Now I have the newer WR version on my X-E4, giving me great photo results in a really small form factor. This combo is the closest thing you can get to a pocketable Fuji X-camera! And it is so small, I can walk around with my X-E4 with the XF 18 F2.0 mounted and just throw the 27 in my pocket... no camera bag needed!

Exceeded my expectations

I wanted a lens/X-T30 combo that I can fit in my jacket pocket or day pack, and it accomplishes this and more. The focus, clarity and sharpness are above my expectations, and the 41mm equivalent is just right in my lens line-up. I will probably still buy the X100V whenever it comes back in stock, but this lens is a great stop-gap, in the meantime. Thanks to B&H creativity, this "sold-out" lens was available as gray-market, and I've always trusted B&H to stand by their product warranties.

If you're hitting the street with just this lens mounted on an XT-4 what's a good neoprene pouch to throw that setup into? I'd like a way to pocket a camera with this lens mounted.

I owned the original 27mm But one day it just died. When I went online to see if I could find out how to fix this problem, I found many people had their 27mm just stop working. Do you know if they fixed this problem with the new lens? It was a really great lens and gave wonderful results and did last for several years. It was the first lens I bought and even bought it from B&H before I bought the camera.
Asked by: Charles
They did make quite a few improvements to the overall stability of this lens in terms of build quality and operation so you should get more longevity out of this lens when compared to the previous version.

can you apply extension tube to this lens?
Asked by: Rita
Yes an extension tube can be used with this lens, as it would only shorten the existing focusing distance of that lens. One example is the FUJIFILM MCEX-16 16mm Extension Tube for Fujifilm X-Mount, BH # FUMCEX16 https://bhpho.to/3oAShtj
